Hello, everyone. Just wanted to say hello. Name's Dave. I have a 2000 Z28 with over 220,000 miles on the odo, but only 5,000 on the new motor, tranny, and exhaust.

And, as the screen name says, I replaced the old 5.7 with a 2007 LS2. It's not running at 100% yet, but it will be shortly (have an issue with the cam sprocket, which once the right one's installed, it'll be just peachy).

Here are some pictures. Also chose to paint the calipers.

Great lookin Z man, welcome. I like that motor swap, I would like to do that after my ls1 throws in the towel.

Be certain you do a lot of research before you do. There are differences between the LS1 and LS2, especially if you're sticking with the LS1 computer:

• Make certain the reluctor wheel on the LS2 is a 24X, not the 58X. Newer LS2 (like mine, which is an '07 LS2 from GM Performance) engines come with the 58X
• If you're not swapping out the cam, on the newer LS2s, the cam sprocket is a single-bolt/4-bump sprocket, and the LS1 sprocket is a three-bolt/single-bump, so you're going to have issues with the LS1 computer. I had my mechanic take an LS1 sprocket to a machine shop to have the center hole milled out to the same size as the LS2's sprocket, and since it wasn't going to sit in deep enough, the center also had to be milled out so it would fit properly.
• The water pump will have to be an LS1 pump, since the LS2 pump is too short.
• The LS1 throttle body is a cable-drive, whereas the LS2 is a drive-by-wire, so you have to make certain you get a 90mm TB if you want to keep the intake manifold.

There's a few other issues, however, the best thing to do, is when you're ordering the LS2, tell them what you're about to do, and they should be able to take care of that for you before you drop the engine in.

They're fun. Even with a few issues, I managed to hang with a brand-new M5 (still had the paper tag on it) at only 3/4 throttle. I didn't even realize I was going over 140 until I looked down at the speedo, whereupon I immediately tamped it down to a more reasonable 100, and then, since he went ahead of me, when he waited for me to clear the toll booth, he floored it and couldn't lose me (again not going over 3/4 throttle, so it was never at WOT).

So, yeah, it's definitely da shitz.
