Tuning Issue attn:HP Tuners
I had my car tuned a few weeks back by a very reputable tuner. I love the tune, the car feels great except for one issue that we can't seem to chase down. Under light throttle and when first reaching a cruising speed, the torque converter locks and unlocks repeatedly. This causes rhythmic ~100 rpm surge which causes a rocking chair effect inside the car. Once the cruising speed is reached it takes a few seconds but it settles down and acts normal. We went back and put all the torque management back in under 75% throttle, to no avail. The pressure in the transmission was bumped 10%. That's the only other thing that we know of that could POSSIBLY have effected lockup. Any ideas? We're stumped.

I had to go lookin for what you ride was.
By any chance did you have the computers updated before you started tuning? There was /is an update for tranny business.
Does it do it in 3rd? 4th? DOD still active?

In OD or 4th , DOD is active in all gears. In 3rd there is no DOD. Tq con is usually only the cause for +/-50 so my guess is DOD surging.
as I said try it in 3rd and if it is not present, try holding a steady throttle at say 55mph and without releasing any throttle, using left foot just lightly touch the brake and watch the tach(tq con lock/unlock). touching the pedal should give rpm rise releasing it rpm drops/settles back.

Anyway, what can I do to get this fixed? I shot my tuner a text, waiting on his reply.

k.. so sounds like it's the DOD causing it... like the "surge" that's felt in the diablo tunes...
I know in the diablo tunes, there's a section in the engine settings for the tranny torque management - which is for how much torque gets delivered from the engine to the tranny - those settings need to be put back to stock GM settings...
can't tell ya what the parameters are for it all in hp tuners... they label **** differently than the diablo/CMR software does...

310 at the wheels, nice. I doubt that's too much for the factory converter. There are many LS4 cars with that power and more with the factory converter in place. I'll do a little research for you and see what i can come up with.

Mine is HP-tuned and I spent more time on the tranny portion...DoD is disabled, all TM is taken out, the lockup speed was moved up to 60 MPH in 4th and there is no TC lockup in 3rd. Did you have the shift points moved to take advantage of the tune? Mine shifts at 6250 in all gears at WOT; I have also moved the MPH downshifts downward.

Mine is doing this too. I thought it was kicking into and out of OD. I can manually put it in 4th and it doesn't do it nearly as much, but if I put it into D it surges back and forth.
