Default Monte SS Track times

I have a stone stock 06 Monte SS with the LS4 V8 and I am planning on taking it to the track. I have drag raced rear drivers before, but this is my first time running a front driver. What tricks do you recommend to get the best times out of this combo?? What ET should I expect (National Trails raceway, in Ohio) I have a smart alec Brother in law with a 99 Mustang Gt that I want to teach a lesson to

Bone stock you'll probably get low 14's out of it. Just remember that weight transfer is now your enemy. put about 25# in the front and as much as you are comfortable with in the back. take as much weight out of the back of the car as you can.

The best I have ran at NTR is a 14.5. Torque management is a bitch.

Interesting. I've never run my Impala at the track, but my 1999 and 2000 Camaros would consistently run better 60-ft times with the TC off. I know FWD is a totally different animal, but I can't imagine going faster with the electronic nanny turned on.

Have you tried both ways?

I've tried both ways and tc off was better for me. Ag gets good short times with it on, so it can go either way

Our TC is controlled through the front brakes. It doesn't cut throttle like on the LS1s. I have tried both ways, and before headers I got better short times with it off. Now, it's a toss up but TC can help save me if I get too throttle happy. I think it's largely up to what power the car makes and driving styles. Best thing to do is try it all and do what works best for you.

Do you just stomp on it with the tc on, or do you still ease into the gas?

Just stomping it is never an option, even in a stock car with TC on. I'd probably have a 5 second 60', maybe 3.5 with TC on. lol

WOT from a dead stop and you cut 2.2s? Even with TC on if I just floor it, traction is a serious problem.

Wow...That's pretty damn impressive...In my 2000 Z28 A4, the best I could cut was a 1.97 60-ft on street tire with the TC off. All I would get with it on was a bog. You must be pretty good!

Once again, our brake operated traction control is much different than the throttle operated one of the LS1s.

lower front tires, air up rear tires.... i prefer no TC.... leave the car in drive till the car shifts, then drop it in manual mode so that the car doesnt up-shift into 3rd early.

I cut a 1.97 60ft wit tires less then 50 % with the traction control on and stomping it from an idle.

That is all great info, thanks. I am planning on dropping the front tires to 25 psi, and airing up the rears to 50 psi (Just the opposite that I used to do with my Chevelle) putting a 1/2 tank of Hi-test gas, pulling the spare, floor mats, etc. Do you guys typically bring the engine up against the brake (power brake) if so what RPM works best? I have only had the car a couple of weeks and have not had much chance to test. I do know it is TOUGH to get the car off the line without the TC on.... It just roasts the tires... Fun, but not real good for et's.
