Summer IAT's

With hot weather i was doing some scans and noticed that the IAT's Intake Air Temp was reading 111 - 125 degrees.

This has probably been blogged before.

But would wrapping the crossover pipe with exhaust wrap help with lowering IAT's.

I have an Intense FWI. with an amsoil air filter. There is a product that is resolves heat soaked from vector motorsports. but it looks i need to drill into airbox. with the setup I have, which would be the better solution.

I have an Intense FWI and I drilled into the aluminum piece that comes with the FWI. I used a rubber grommet and just stuck the new sensor in. I made my own heat soak reduction kit. I got all the connectors from Casper's Electronics. I think in total it cost me $47.00 for everything. Beats paying $100.00. It works well. My IAT's are about 2 - 4* hotter than the outside air. With this kit you'll never see those temps. unless that's what the actual outside temp. is. Hope this helps.

GTO and TBSS guys swear by the HSRK.

And so do certain GXP people... lol.... I only run mine in summertime.

I swear by the MSD got it mounted behind TB in my spacer.

Here are the parts I used.

G8 MAF connector:

IAT Sensor:
http://www.casperselectronics.com/st...roducts_id=964

36" IAT Extension:

Hope this helps you guys out a bit. You'll still need to drill a hole and buy some grommets. My grommets cost me $3.99 for a bunch of various sizes. The total now is about $69.00. When I did this it was less than $50.00. Still saves about $30.00.

What is heat soaking?

Z28 Autobot Jul 11, 2010 12:52 PM

when everything in the engine bay is getting heated up. And makes and air going into the engine hotter. When all the plastics metals and what nots get hot it robs power.

Hawkins04 Jul 14, 2010 02:23 PM

how do you get rid of that? what can i do?

Wrap the crossover pipe, HSRK, and remove the weather stripping that seals the back of the hood. If you have a GXP you can try the Chin spoiler mod.

doing the chin spoiler this week sometime, what is a hsrk?

Moves the IAT sensor away from the MAF. Do a search on here, or even google to learn more about it.

Yeah, I think they are the more "reputable" dealer. But they do sell out pretty quickly.

For those of you who have removed the weather stripping....do you hear a lot of air moving?

I can't tell if I can just hear the engine more, or if something is wrong.
