Installed DDM HIDs - Now Fogs Don't Work Due to the positive feedback this and other forums had to say about the DDM HID setup, I went ahead and purchased the 9006 set (these were going into a 2007 Grand Prix GXP) with their relay wired harness. Installation was pretty simple and straight-forward, and I had the wire routed and everything installed in a little over an hour. They fired up no problem, but what I notice now, is that the fogs don't want to turn on when I attempt to do so. However, if I turn the vehicle off, and get out of it in a dark enough area to turn the headlights on automatically, the fogs will kick on like they should, for that 15 second period or so. So, are there any thoughts as to why they may not be responding? Any suggestions would be appreciated, and if I've not explained my problem adequately, please let me know and I'll do my best to clarify. |
i would try hooking them up without the harness to bought. |
Well, that might be my best bet as it's an unexplored option right now. I'm not sure (because I just haven't spent any time with my voltmeter yet), but I know on my '02 Monte, it was an odd, +12V circuit at all times, and when you would switch the headlights on, it would close the circuit. The only reason though that that was a concern at that time was that I was wiring the highs to a relay so that when I'd high the highs, the relay would kick the lows on too, and polarity matters. Maybe the car isn't seeing that the circuit is not closing correctly with the HIDs, and therefore won't allow me to turn on the fogs? Anyone else experienced anything similar with their install? -Adrian |
Is this the dual in/dual out harness? |
I would definitely take the relay off the fogs. Try that first, I hope it works. |

The fogs wont turn on without the engine running. |

now, i'm thinking the fog light fuse must've blew. |
Yes agreed check your fuses. Also see if putting the stockers back in eliminates the problem. On my Regal I had to reverse the connection for my fogs and now they work flawlessly with no problems. I can't guarantee it will work for you. I also have a yellow top which helps IMO. I will also be getting some for my SS soon. |
Though I haven't checked the fuse (wife took the car for the day already), I doubt that that's the problem, as the fogs will kick on when the car's pulled into the garage and the vehicle turned off. They turn on automatically, I just can't turn them on manually. I have an AC Delco battery that's less than 30 days old, and I'm not really willing to buy another battery for troubleshooting. I submitted a service ticket to DDM with the specifics too, since the HIDs didn't work installed without the relay harness. I will plug the stock bulbs back in tonight, and let you know what happens. Thanks for the suggestions so far. -Adrian |
Did not intend for you to run out and buy one. It was more information on my setup as mine do not flicker and are 55w for the lows and 35w for the fogs. You can also try switching the ballast/bulbs since the lows and the fogs are the same. |
