Default dumb thing i did

hey guys little story for you all. i was putting in the cold air k and n kit yesterday and forgot to disconnect the battery. the tcm or ecm im not sure hit the starter solonoid and made a little spark nothing bad no burn marks. anyway after all installed i start my car up and the service traction control system shows up and the light is on. the car has no power in drive feels like its starting off in 4 gear. it will shift manually however if you drop it in 1st and shift it that way. also after you turn off ignition the car will continue to run for 10 sec then shut off. one code p1682 shows up. i took it to the dealer and they are tryin to figure it out. of course i didnt tell em what really happened. any thoughts from u guys much appreciated thanks. its a 2006 monte ss by the way

did you disconnect the negative battery cable AFTER that issue for about a half hour? that should have cleared out any gremlins...

and that code is for "Powertrain control module fault" or just "Driver 5 Line 2" - depending on which DTC list you look at, heh...

yes did disconnect negative but still the same problems occur

before i took it to the dealer i tryed to pull out the diablo tune and it went staright to perf tune like it never had a tune in it.

TCM is fried, mine done that a few months ago, be careful my trans failed shortly after from driving it in that state. Do you have a warranty? It's a quick fix.

EDIT: It erased my tune, as well.

may have zapped your module then... may be lookin at having to buy a new one $$$

ECM is about $435 MSRP...

they said the pcm is covered for eight years so yes and my pcm was replaced by them a year ago for another issue of the car not starting

huh?? did you have a custom tune in the predator??

if you DID have a custom tune in it, then it should still be there... your ecm/tcm messing up on your car wouldn't affect the predator or erase anything from it...

if not, then it will always have Performance Tune in the menu...

to restore the original backup, you have to go to Options - Troubleshooting - Restore Original Backup

yea i went to restore the factory tune into the car and when i plugged in the predator it went straight to choose performance tune like the car didnt have a tune in it. usually it recognizes a tune in it and askd to restore factory tune but this time it didnt so for the hell of it i hit performance tune and it said it coul\dnt recognice a p/n file or somethin like that i dont know i had the regular no dod 93 TUNE IN IT

yeah.. .can't read p/n of first calibration file... means one of two things...

#1 - you didn't have your key turned on...

or

#2 - your key was on, but your ECM is toast cuz it can't read/access it -- which is most likely the case, since the predator couldn't read/access it to tell if there was a tune already on it or not - hence why it went into performance tune when you connected it...

will the ecm cause the tranny to act like that or do i have a problem with both computers?

Like I said, the TCM is toast, mine done the same exact thing and it was the TCM, the tune on the TCM was unrecognizable.

Are all your mileage infos broke?

seeing as how the predator does not communicate with the TCM at all, that wouldn't matter if that was the case...

I wasn't aware the Predator didn't read the TCM, my mistake. I was just sharing my past experience.

They both may be toast.

hehe, np man...

yeah, there's no tcm/tranny support for these cars, so the only thing the predator can communicate with, is the ECM for the engine tune...

and because he's getting that error, that tells me it can't read the ECM at all... so my money is on the ECM being bad...

or, like you said, could be both...

but definitely the ecm...

my car went into limp mode on me once - I didn't put the battery cable back on the post fast enough, so there was some arcing, hehe....

started the car up, and went to move it outta the garage, and no matter how far down I pushed the gas pedal, the car barely crawled, had the tranny CEL on the dash, etc etc..

disconnecting the battery cable again for about a half hour, then putting it back on (quick this time!), solved the issue...

oh... and once they replace your ECM, you won't be able to use the predator at this point, because it is locked to the other ECM...

did you buy the predator new or used?? and when??

well i wonder how long it will take the dealer to find what the problem is theyve had my car car since fri morning i bought the predator new down here in ft lauderdale at speed and truck world . i cant tell em what i did cause itll void my warranty
