It's so damn cold...

First off on my temperature do dad in the car it is coming up as -10 degrees F. That's damn cold. The HUD took about 45 seconds to "Warm Up" as it says. AND even after driving down the road for about 15 minutes at 55mph the car never even came close to temp. I had heat and everything , the car just could not get up to temp.

Just imagine how cold the air coming into the engine was, -10 degrees at 55 mph??!!!

So once I get back from the hospital for my severe case of "Nippleitis" I will inform you on the weather once again :D

Oh' Michigan how I love you!:ripped:

we arent doing much better down here in northwest Ohio....thing that really sucks is my beater 94 grand prix's heater sucks so it takes a good 15-20 minutes to get some decent heat going

Since you're in Alabama you probably don't know what wind chill is :D

-10*F at 55mph is a -46*F wind chill.

williamGT Jan 24, 2011 12:49 AM

was -47c here last week

wind chill is how cold it FEELS on your skin, actual temperature does not change. so the IAT's would be -10*

Sorry, didn't mean to imply the IAT sensor would read incoming air at -46*.

If the air is still it would read -10* but since the air is moving it is removing heat from a surface faster. I'm not saying the IAT sensor would read -46* but it would read cooler than if the vehicle was stationary and at idle.

left work last week at 7am and it was something like 2 or 3 ... not the coldest day in chicago by a long shot, and not the coldest day since, but the sun coming up was damn good looking so i decided to grab a picture or two ...

youll forgive the quality, you know, cause it was freaking cold ...

oh the sadness of using this car as a DD ... look at that salt

That is one hell of a sharp picture there DrJesus.

It's currently rocking a testicle retracting -8 here in Massachusetts.

indynotch50 Jan 24, 2011 07:10 AM

We're in the middle of heat wave in central indiana. They're actually talking about freezing rain instead of snow.
So glad I no longer am up in Michigan all the time.
I hear you DrJesus, my poor GXP still sees 104 miles a day no matter how nasty it is outside. The car looks just terrible. I'm going to run it through the high pressure car wash this week though, even if it's still nasty outside.
However, that front end can make one hell of a snow plow.

-12 this morning... I'm a glass half full type of guy, I still strongly believe a day at -12 > Hurricane.

Here is a windchill chart for you all:

im sure i can google this, but i was talking to my gf just this morning and we were curious how do they come up with wind chill? is there some formula or is it all speculation? you know i can go out and say it feels like its a temp and you can go out and think it feels like a different temp. oh yeah and its fuckin cold out here in nj were expecting the snowpocalypse out here tuesday night, but we'll be in ac winning our fortunes.

-5 here in Rochester this morning. The tranny never got over 120 on my 30 minute commute to school with my transmission cooler.

TSS09SS Jan 24, 2011 09:54 AM

I thought I had the coldest reading yesterday morning in East Lansing MI at -4.2. I guess Midland , MI (and NY and MA etc) have me beat. LOL

I don't know how you guys do it up there. I just about froze to death when i visited my sister in NY during spring break a long time ago!!!

Right now I'm sitting at a chilly 53* with 93% humidity and its been raining since about 1am.

Red06SS Jan 24, 2011 10:53 AM

I am so sick of the north east. If it were feasible to move to warmer climates, I would.

I think I'd sweat to death.

That's gotta be some killer density altitude at -10. Too bad our tires are rocks at those temps, because I imagine our cars would haul ASS at -10

-10*F at 55mph is a -46*F wind chill.

Internal Combustion Engines don't feel wind chill. The density of the air doesn't change.

As far as wind chill goes, try it being 20* with 80% humidity. It's a completely different kind of cold.
