First off, welcome.

Searching can find you a ton of information much quicker than waiting on people to stumble in and offer opinions. You can find a much larger variety of information by doing a search.

To answer your question, I would start with a catless DP and do a custom 3" setup from there back.

I have deleted the resonator and put a cut out in it's place. Can't imagine having anything quieter than that on an LS4

I know this has been discussed before, but did those of you who deleted the resonater notice ANY seat-of-the-pants increase in power?

I ask now because I'm getting the catless DP installed while the trans work is being finished, and it would be very easy for the shop to swap out the resonator. But I don't want to do it if there's no performance benefit. It's just not worth the few extra $$ to me.

No power increase. The resonator is a straight through design so there is no way removing one could add power.

yeah, what Emerson said... there are no gains at all power-wise... it's already a straight-through pipe, just has packing around it to keep it quieter in the cabin...

you won't gain anything by removing it, except more cabin noise...

Thank you! If it doesn't build power, it's not worth doing!

I have straight pipes now, though I'm getting Magnaflows welded in today because of the catless dp that's also going in.

Having lived with straight pipes for the better part of the past year-and-a-half, I can tell you that it takes some getting used-to inside. You get a serious drone at highway speeds, and it can really rattle our cheap interiors. That said, it sounds freaking AWESOME when you jump on it, and that's why my wife is sad that we're getting mufflers!

Do you still have a resonator with your FMs?

Straight pipes sound like ****. We have a truck cam and combined with out chassis it sounds TERRIBLE at anything but WOT. I can say with confidence that I have had more exhaust setups on an LS4 than any other owner and I can say I have FINALLY found something that works. It doesn't sound like an F body with longtubes but it doesn't sound like a farm truck. It's loud, rattles the interior and I've had enough of it. The ladies hate it and the rattles annoy me to death. I'm going to run it on out the back to cure the drone and resonance from the turndown under the back seat and if nothing major changes I will finally be done.

I write all this so you won't make the same mistakes I did. The rasp with a chambered muffler or straight pipes is going to sound like complete ****.

a little dynomat in the trunk and around the spare tire well will help out the rattle noises. I had this problem and fixed it and my trunk rattle due to my sub. I no longer have any rattles inside or outside the car. I bought a complete trunk kit from my car audio salesman for $140.

I run headers, to a metalic solo performance high flow cat, solo resonator, 3" stainless mandrel to 2.5" y-split into solo performance mach mufflers and dual 4" ss tips.

Flows great, and sounds awesome.
