Cool Brembo brake kit.

I was thinking how stupid it was that chevy put a brembo brake kit on the cobalt ss which has less hp than the monte carlos that have a v8 in them. But then i was also thinking that the cobalt ss's have the same bolt pattern that we do. i wonder if the brembo kit will fit on our cars....

I have over heated and warped my rotors once. Had to get them cut. The factory brakes aren't that bad, the rotors suck. They need aftermarket ones and pads to go along with it.

figuring what the Cobalt can do around the track.. I guess thats why. Should see what the Cobalt did in Germany.

But what about GXP brakes and rotors? Are is that a totally messed up idea too?

We have PBR stuff, which is what the GTO has and I find them to be very good.

First off, the cobalt is a MUCH more powerful car. With a simple tune they are way over 300hp to the wheels. The turbo ones especially.
Second, i have bought aftermarket rotors and tried about 10 different types of pads and they all over heat after two high speed stops. The only real way of getting better brakes would be a conversion to z06 or camaro brakes. You could try other cars as well but the point is, brakes on the w-body suck.

and by over heat i mean fade out completly

Ehh I don't know man.... I did quite a few high speed stops with OEM breaks and rotors and they held up fine... I replace them finally last week after 57k.

Just a question but how easy or difficult is a conversion to F-body brakes?

Im on my 3rd set of rotors and 2nd set of pads on my GXP with 62k on the clock. Now thats just front. I think the backs are still good.

FWIW, my GT has better lasting brakes with the F-body kit on the front and ebay rotors. They have not warped in over uhhh,,,,, 5 years.

However, the GXP stops quicker and shorter than then GT....

I use the raybestos rotors and hawk pads and they survived a couple sessions at Road America here in WI. Never faded once and those were 25min sessions, but I did flush the brake fluid to get the higher boiling point . 115mph at the main straight then down to 50 to make the hard right, and hard braking the rest of the time. Guy in a LS1 Trans Am boiled the paint off his Brembo calipers, stunk real bad. I think the brakes on this car are great.

Hello, Im new to the forum and must admit I love the power. But stopping it is a damn hard job. Im also starting to notice a "bouncing" sound from the rear brakes as I stop. No speaks or grinding, just this noise. Any ideas??

Damn, some of you guys must be hard on your brakes. I've got 94k on the STOCKERS and they only squeak on humid mornings or before they're warm.

I've thought about the c5 brake upgrade, but couldn't find a pair for a decent price(when I was looking).

BTW, the turbo cobalts put down about 240 to the wheels stock. There's many videos on youtube of them, plus i've seen a friends put down 245 at a dyno day. Trifecta has a tune for them that I think they claim a 65hp gain on a tune alone.
