Tires, Tires, Tires, Suspension, suspension, suspension.

In that order. If you're serious...front LCAs, rear LCAs, and rear coilovers cranked up.

1/8th tank of gas or less

45psi rear tire pressure

remove driver side headlight

remove crap from trunk

roll into the throttle and stay calm

never hot lap

open hood between runs, and keep the engine off as much as possible

don't try to be the fastest one out there. Work on beating your own times.

Stage deep. Meaning... stop as soon as the second stage light; lights up.

Turn off headlights and other battery draining items. (Just by turning off my day time running lights, I gained .5mph)

Do not lower the front tire pressure! Search on line for the reasons why.

Do not! Do long burn outs. Just back up to the water box (stay out off the water) set the parking brake and floor it for a few seconds. Just long enough to clean the tires off.
Then do a couple light throttle stabs to check traction before staging

The tire and burnout thing will depend on what tires you have and rim size, etc. You really need a good contact patch and tread compound will decide how hot they need to be.

DavidGXP Brouht up the most important one. NOT DROPPING tire pressure, for any driving conditions.

When my SS was naturally aspirated with a few bolt on mods, I would keep the car in 2nd gear through the traps for the quickest et's. 13.0 was my quickest when the car was n/a.

K&N, Hogan catless DP, Magnaflow catback no resonator, LS6 yellow valve springs, 1.8 HS Rockers, TF pushrods, Diablo Lew tune, Ported LS4 intake manifold, poly dog bone mount, and slicks was what it took to get there.
