Default 1/8th mile !!!

So I have yet to run my gxp (bone stock) at a drag strip.. The nearest one is a 1/8th mile.. Only 1/4 mile is 2 1/2 hrs away and not fully open..

Question.. should I do the 1/8th its open tomorrow and I was kinda thinking about it.. My buddy says not too cuz 1/8ths are stupid.. And boring

What do our cars normally run? Anything impressive stock??

And yes I can drive lol

I figured it would still be fun.. I want to hear opinions though really.

14's stock in 1/4mile. You can run the 1/8m to practice launching the car, but don't expect great numbers since we pick up a little more on the top after 1/8m mark.

Yeah I've seen track numbers that are around 9 seconds.. Only reason for this debate is because my friend said not to waste my time.. I'm trying to get a couple friends to go, and I'm probably going.. I'll deffinately post my numbers tonight if I do go!!

All the skills in the 1/8mile, after the 1/4 you just steer straight and floor it.

Honestly i would rather race 1/8 mile 95% of the time. Reasons every motor ive ever tore up was after the 1/8mile mark and i already trap over 120 in the 1/8th so why do i need to go faster.

You can't really call it a "waste" since you can practice your launching techniques. What's a waste is driving 2hrs(for you) and only spinning your *** off at the track and getting **** times.

I personally do 1/4 mile cause both of them are closer to me than the 1/8 mile tracks, but I still have to drive an hour one way to get to either 1/4m.

Ok so I went... And long story short.. I ran once and as I was pulling up to do second run it started raining!!

Going in two weeks to get redemption.. Yes redemption.. Lol I did horrible on the one run I did.. I was next to a turd 5.0 and a car ahead of us went alone and I somehow ended up next to a turbo diesel dodge that was eating most of the cars alive running 8second 1/8ths.. So anyway.. I did a nice burnout.. But when the light ls started flashing down the tree I panicked and just floored it... I know u don't do that.. U give it a little and catch traction, then floor it..

Guess I just had the adrenalin going since it was my first time!! I totally forgot my game plan hahaha and floored it...

I roasted my tires almost the whole 1/8th.. I have it on video for the none believers.. But anyone who owns this car should already know..

As for numbers.. I don't really want to share.. Haha but I will.. Only because I'm going back in two weeks and posting my better time hahaha..

So reaction time was .442
60ft was a horrible 2.5660
330ft was 7.3658.. Spinning tires I told you

594ft was 10.3380
With a final 1/8th et of 10.9750
At 70.64mph

I know I know.. U think Im a horrible driver.. But I'm not.. Like u said I kinda freaked and floored it all the way... Big mistake.. As I made it back for my 2nd run to redeem my mess up it got rained out..

Funny thing is right after I took off I was yelling at myself in the car haha like motherf$&cker lol but it was too late..

Ps.. I had tc off too... Lmao...

Now let's here the crappy driver comments hahaha... I'm not ashamed to admit I totally screwed it up... How do I post the video on a iPhone? So y'all can witness this?? Lol

Haha it happens and takes time to get it down. I'm sure if you had a couple more passes you'd be fine. Only advised for next time if your running street tires skip the burnout and water box all together.

I knew what to do just didn't do it haha.. When I go bak I'll try no burnout and water like u said.. That one run I got I did do an impressive burn out.. But I could have just made them more slick

Eventually I'll get the video up.. It's sad tho.. To me at least.. What is your guess on what a 10.9 1/8th would have been in a 1/4???? 15??? Lmao in going to hate myself for two weeks until I go bak for redemption lol

yep heating up street tires just make them spin more, so unless your running slicks or DR I'd stay away from the waterbox. And don't worry about it too much i think anyone that has gone down the track has felt that adrenaline rush, and completely forgot what they wanted to do.

Hopefully on May 5th when I head up to Byron dragway ill be ablle to get a couple of respectable passes. Itll be the first time going down the track in a fwd.

I don't know about low 13s but maybe mid to high 13s.. My plan is to cai then tune.. Then exhaust.. Dp.. High flow cat.. And hopefully be close to low 13s.. Got 2grand or so to put in her.. then maybe change rockers and pushrods, then possibly headers who knows.. Eventually I'll get rid of her so I dunno how much I'll mod.. Probably just cai tune and exhaust

I'm in Illinois. Where is this guy? I would love that

I've talked to Lew at diablo.. He's even told me just the CAI and Tune is where it's at!!

Of coarse that's around a thousand dollars for intake and the tuner with lews work.

Is this a dynotune? Around here those run about the same as lews 700$ price tag.

I'd like to know more..

Sorry bro...No LS4 will run low 13's on just a tune. Ain't gonna happen.

A G8 is a totally different animal than an LS4 car, and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another, and the results are not even remotely the same.

Plus performance-wise I thought the G8's had a pretty poor tune from the factory while the grand prix's had a relatively good tune. So a tune in a G8 will help out a lot more than in a grand prix or any other LS4 car.

When I first went to the track when I had my impala i too, felt the adrenaline rush and floored it. When I tell you I spun my wheels allllll the way down the track, it was horrible. I didn't even keep my time slip. It's a natural habit to floor it. I had this POS Honda civic dust me at that. If I were to hook, I would have taken him with no problem.

This is true!

Also, comparing a rectangular port 6.0 with a free-flowing intake to a 5.3 with the worst LS intake ever made, along with our restrictive exhaust is definitely apples to oranges.
