New recall for Grand Prix's For anybody who doesn't know, I'm pretty sure there's going to be a recall on the GP's now for the ignition problem. Says it was announced back in July but they have not provided a notification schedule. If you guys down south have already got it I apologize, but being up here in Canada I wonder if they're a lot slower rolling out the notifications. Does anybody know how long it typically takes them to notify the owners? |
i believe 8/30/2014 a recall was put out. |

I got my letter in the mail a couple weeks ago. |
Hmm I wonder if it would be slower getting to me since I'm in Canada but my GXP started out in the U.S. |
Hopefully i get a recall on mine soon , I'll be storing my car in another 3 weeks. Since gm are doing all these recalls they might as well do one for the transmission too. |
i got mine a few months ago the recall includes a year range , so it doesn't matter if you received it in the mail or not , call the dealership |
The recall is basically on the key. They will put a cheap peice of plastic on the hole of the key that will keep key rings centered. |
Ya I went to the dealer. They directed me to call GM because they weren't sure when they would have the parts?? I called up GM. A nice guy named Doug explained that is a crock of shit and the dealer damn well knows that they have to and can order the parts right away and book the appointment. So back to the dealer I go tomorrow lol |
Key mod I took my 06 gxp in today for the ignition problem. They glue in a piece of plastic into the key head to make the hole smaller. The theory is to keep the the fob and what ever you have on the end of the key from swinging to much as to shut off the engine. The parts department does the work. Funny thing is Pontiac installed a piece of padding under the key ring to keep it from scratching the dash. To kill time I walked thru their lot, salesman comes out, we talk and came upon his car. A red gxp, where is the fender vent, does not have one, does it have the v8 no v6 with a 6 speed ran the vin says gxp. About the same as making the hole smaller. |
I went back and someone more knowledgeable took me over to parts and they're going to do the key mod on Monday. I didn't have my spare with me otherwise they would of done it on the spot. That's odd his gxp is a v6 6 speed. Are you sure its not a GTP? They made them up until 04 and in that last year they had the same body style as our ls4s without the vents. |
6 speed? The only factory 6 speed automatic W-body is the Impala. |
