You can run your line like this. It's how I used to have it setup a long time ago

You can enlarge a hole and run your line through safely

And if you order a bushing make sure you get a poly one from intense racing. Best quality by far. I've had mine since 09

ah so there is an access hidden behind there, thats good at least i can route that, i had a set of stainless steel brake line that i could have bent to make that run as well, but the fittings on the end dont match up to the same size as the trans cooler and radiator.

another thing i just found out is the newer style fittings are smaller then the old fittings, looks like im going to need a 5/8th adapter to accommodate the new line.

So apparently...the new style GM fittings are 9/16 thread, which is ****** retarded. I could not find any adapters to make a hard line work. I had a nice 3/8" brake line setup with 5/8 fittings that would have made a perfect run here and I could have secured it with clips but finding the appropriate sizes was next to impossible. I'm not a big fan of running soft line here but it will have to do for the time being.

For anyone who is wondering, the cooler is PN ACDELCO 20918529, and the lower line is ACDELCO 20892944 which fits perfectly from the lower port on this cooler to the upper port on the radiator, this makes the cooler an aftercooler setup.

I use universal power steering line for mine. The psi rating and quality is way better than standard Trans line. If you have a ace hardware I'm sure you can match a fitting up. Be sure and use fuel injection clamps as well

I also used fuel injection clamps, its worth the extra security for those hoses as they will probably be tough to reach if they leak once buttoned up.

That's why i used oem constant tension clamps, so as the hose ages it continually applies pressure. Trust me, there is no way they are coming off, if i told you what it took just to get them on the fittings and then trying to remove them while mocking it up, i actually had to cut one end of the hose because the one pushlock will not come off. lol I have to make some minor modifications to the plastic shroud that supports the headlights, as that no longer fits properly in that one particular area.

heres another shot with the plastic shroud cut, you dont really have to cut this much, its just easier to work those angles cleanly with a hacksaw, which makes quick work of this plastic. Losing the headlight alignment pin on this side didnt hurt anything with regards to the headlight, but you might be able to keep it if you make some more angled cuts.

There was absolutely no reason to cut that much out especially where the headlight attaches. I bent that metal tab out the way so the line can lay flat and not interfere But **** it weight reduction i guess

like i said, dont really have to cut that much, just was easier to cut along those angles with the hack saw. Also provided me more access cutting alot of that out should i ever need to get to it behind the head light.

Standalone config. I refuse to have 200 degree coolant and a super small cooler with little to no surface area that has the possibility of contaminating transmission fluid with coolant in the loop. Keep the Trans the absolute coolest you can.

Standalone may be great in your area, but in New England it is not ideal. You are not dealing with the same sub zero cold temperatures we are. In a standalone configuration this could be very low, too low. That's not good either. There is not only one way for this, it should be based on your climate.

Just keep in mind dex 6 is a synthetic fluid. It will still maintain flow just like your oil will. If your concerned you can always block off some of your cooler when the colder months hit

The transmission what alot of parameters already set to help it get to a acceptable temp

Well I installed mine in the beginning of March and it was still brutally **** *** cold. On my commute of 45 minutes I saw max temps of between 129 degrees and 138 degrees for about 3 days. That worried me as I was wondering WTF did I just do installing this thing. As it got warmer it was better, still havnt seen over 188 so far but in standalone as you always say it will be lower and lower than those figures is too low. No, I wouldn't go standalone here.

Don't know what the max temp will be, but its a 95 degree day today with very high humidity and another half hour drive and it never went over 175*. I don't recommend anyone run a stand alone cooler if you live in an area where it goes below freezing in the winter. Dexron 6 is like a straight weight engine oil, not a multi weight like we use in our engines, which means when it is cold it will be much thicker in viscosity compared to when it is at operating temperature. The computer has settings that account for these variables for cold fluid by reducing main line pressure, you always want your fluid to be between 175-200* for proper operation. Any colder and your gonna run into issues.

Dex 6 is synthetic unlike dex 3. Meaning it keeps the same viscosity over a huge range of temperatures. If this were a older fluid then sure but dex 6 even in 5 degrees is still super thin.

super thin does not mean it should be kept at sub operating temperatures because you "think" that it is better for the trans.
