Default Oil Consumption

Since I'm on here I thought I'd ask a question about these GXP's. I never saw a clear cut answer on why these cars (well, at least my car) uses oil.
It uses a quart every 1000 to 1200 miles. Drives me up a wall. It's not leaking oil underneath but every fourth gas fill up I gotta add another quart of oil.
Is the DOD to blame?
Is it a poor design?
Just not sure.
I like this car. Coolest car I've had. I've had it 2 1/2 years now. It's my daily driver.
Thanks.
Mike

Here is my experience with the updated oil pan gasket. At 90000 miles my 05 GXP was burning about 1 quart every 1200 miles. At that point I went to the updated oil pan gasket. It made no difference. At about 120000 miles I was burning 1 quart every 900-1100 miles. I then unplugged the oil pressure sending unit which disables DOD to see if anything changed. My oil consumption immediately went down to about 1 quart every 2500 miles. I have since tuned out DOD and plugged the oil pressure sending unit back in so I can use my remote start.

I bought a catch can but I never installed it. Seems like a band aid repair. I guess it would reclaim a fraction of what is 'burned' or put into the crankcase air. I may just have to put the can on anyway.

If it dod is to blame then I just may have to live with it. I average 18-19 mpg around town and highway driving in the car which isn't too bad for a v-8 car.
I thought I read something about valve cover baffle updates but it may have been for a truck or suv.

I'm guessing tuning out the DOD would be not worth the extra cost of a HP tuners license and whatever hardware to install it.

Thanks for your input, guys.

Getting a tune is totally worth it. Dod sucks for both the engine and transmission. The catch can is not a band aid fix. More like the nature of the beast
