AFM took out my LS4

long story short the car started misfiring bad along with the water pump going out last week and then an alternator failure this week that I just got done replacing. Narrowed the misfire down to cylinder 7. I don’t have a scanner, but soon I will get a scanner to read the codes it’s throwing, for now I unplugged each coil pack one at a time and all are firing, but when I take away or add spark to cylinder 7 the idle doesn’t change at all. It might be the end of the road for the ol girl, died at just over 150k

Thought for a second it could have been a bad injector or the injector wiring for that cylinder, but with the lifter noise I think that the lifter has collapsed...

Or the coil is bad.

Scanners are very inexpensive, and a must for anyone attempting their own repairs. I purchased a Innova 3030g from Amazon years ago, it was about 38 bucks at the time and reads ABS and works well .There are many much better probably cheaper now. As for your lifter being collapsed I would try to run a engine flush product thru the motor to be sure it isn't just stuck, most are inexpensive and if the directions are followed properly it will do no harm. 150k from the trans is good mileage, you haven't said if it was maintained but feel lucky if it wasn't up kept to a T, plenty of things to try there with some searching. Good luck.
