Finally ordered the DR's

Title says it all, i ordered the BFG G-force drag radials 245/40/18's for my car, so when i go to norwalk next Friday i might have some chance at traction.

Hope to get the cam installed somwhere in between there too lol.

Anyone else try these tires on their regular rims yet?

nighthand Apr 12, 2007 02:51 PM

Badd! Dude! Keep me up to date on the cam... :D

Wish I could have gone to the meet :(

live2ride Apr 12, 2007 03:15 PM

I was hoping you could test with the shift kit, springs and rocker setup. While the vid from 50 -100 was impressive, I'd love to see some real times on the car before the cam.

Good luck.

You may get that wish yet, its going to be extremely hard pressed for me to get that cam swaped out yet. Just all depends how ambitious i get this weekend i guess.

But hopefully with some traction it should be in the low 13s somwhere in its current status. All i know is those rockers and stuff upped the low end grunt even more making it harder to launch on the street with regular wheels on the car.

Stop already, your getting me all excited.

Nikon02 Apr 12, 2007 04:28 PM

Sounds good let us know how it goes. If you get a chance to get some vids please share them with us also.

A quick mapquest shows me about 110 miles from Slinger, while I travel quite a bit and am away from home most of the time, drop me a PM when you are ready to do the cam if you want some help. I am a decent wrench turner and would not mind seeing what is involved in case I decide to go that route in the future.

BuffaloSS Apr 13, 2007 08:11 AM

Badd...why'd you get a tire so short, in comparison...is that normal for DR's (call me new).

Dave

Dave, he's got springs, rods, rockers, shift kit, CAI of some sort i believe, and new mufflers, iirc, and he's HPTuned. As you see above, the cam is on its way in.

Did i leave anything out?

There is a sticky for the spring/rod install, and the shift kit writeup is somewhere too.

dont put that cam in till after norwalk! i wanna see the difference those rockers did before u cam it. and i dont wanna get to spanked. i think u may need to let me try those drag radials out while we are there as well. lol

Area47 Apr 13, 2007 12:58 PM

Shorter drag tires are like changing your drive axle ratio from a 3.42 to a 3.73, only just for the track. Maybe not that extreme, but just for an example.

Shorter tires need less distance to complete one revolution.

A visual might be a snowmobile / atv trailer tire. You tow your sled or atv 10 miles, say your tow vehicle tires are at least twice as large. Both tires went the same distance, but the trailer tires actually had more revolutions to go the same distance as the tow vehicle's.

If and when you do the cam swap could you do a write up and take a bunch of pics for all of us. Since it is more difficult then an fbody to get to.

Dude i just ran my buddies stage 2 06' CB-SS yesterday after i tuned it, he put a diff intercooler plate in it and and diff cams, he says its a night and day diff for top end, sounds really mean-like out the exhaust now...

Well we did a hand full of 60 mph runs, and the monte just walked away like a freight train!! so good luck!! Before they were dead even from that kinda roll or he would have a little bit better top end, where iwould get him down low before. That car trapped 103 last year to my 102. Now i put a car on it and going from 60-90. The rockers really work great! We only went from 1 35 mph roll and it did DS to 1st but then short shifts at 5500 at 35 to 40 so i didnt get best hit, and they were stuck side by side till 60 and the monte again just walked right on by like no other once above 4500 in 2nd.

Nobody makes a 50 series side wall 18" drag radial, so i had to go with a 40 series... no biggie.

live2ride Apr 16, 2007 10:18 AM

Badd, If you ever get down to Frederick MD, I'll pay you to do the Rocker deal on my Impala.

right on, im not going to the degree that he did on stuff, no desire too. you won't see me doing much in a straight line, i'll be the nut case in the corners
:drive:

Nikon02 Apr 16, 2007 02:36 PM

Hey Badd,

So did you cam it this weekend? or goign to hold off a little longer?

BADDLS1SS Apr 16, 2007 03:28 PM

Yeah were gonna wait, kinda intrested to see what it will run with traction now. i have decided im going to just hole saw the fender well too when i do the cam.

kissmyss03 Apr 16, 2007 08:24 PM

i ran my buddy who has a cobalt ss with smallest pulley, intercooler, injectors, tune, header, 3 inch exhaust, pistons, ported supercharger, from a 30 roll and beat him. lol. and guess what he did. blew up his motor. there is a new problem with cobalt motors. the number 4 cylinder has a crack in a bunch of htem . gm has already warrentied a bunch of motors cuz of it. it just so happened the chunk of cylinder he broke off was in 4 so we warrentied it
