Question for those of you with GXP's. Okay, I know a few of you here have sold your Impala's for GXP's, and I was curious to know how much better you like them. I haven't had the chance to drive one, so I can't say how much different they are. I know they have 3.29 gears instead of 2.93's, so I would think they are a bit quicker. Feel free to chime in with your experiences, and if you're happy that you traded up. Thanks! |
both the true and the effective gearing is the same for all variants of the LS4 platform. 3.29 gear and after the chain drive reduction, 2.93 effective ratio. SS's/GXP have the same gearing. |
From what I have seen each like their own for specific reasons. In actuality I have been seeing Imp guys running faster stock and breaking less stuff. .. not sure what's up with that. |
Gees I don't want to take all the slack from the Monte/Impala guys but here ya go. Better stereo system Way better brakes Way better suspension Way better factory rims (5 spoke) Way better seats It's also got HUD And when I bought my GXP I got it for just less than $1000.00 from what I paid on my Impala |
Too bad they didn't make them faster than the Monte. |
^^^hahahaha so true. Besides the one turbo car I am definately seeing a lot of IMPs and MCs that are faster than GXPs. Scarlett, rather than bothering what has been said many times before perhaps you should provide pros and cons of each. Just search around there are many posts about the differences. It all comes down to personal preferences. In fact to play devils advocate let me pull from a GXP driver that noticed some of the niceties of an Impala: -Impala SS has auto-dimming interior rear view mirror -outside rear view mirrors are tiny -car has dual piston front calipers -driver's bucket seat has a neat little pocket stitched into the front of it -gauges show pressure per tire -gauges show 8cyl mode and 4 cyl mode from DOD -car has adjustable turn signal blinker volume -radio has ipod jack -rear seat bottom cleverly folds forward -rear seat has third headrest built in at the middle Impala SS has some nice features that our GXPs could use, but then again, we have some pretty neat toys that the Impala doesn't... http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.as...mode=1&smode=1 |

all I just heard/read was blah blah blah.... |
It realy depends on what you want the car for. There are several reasons i bought my gxp. It had many more sporty options then the impala such as the: Brakes, Tires, Variable-Effort Pwr Rack & Pinion, suspension. It also had alot of visual atraction which obviously is my opinion but the wheels, the seats, the HUD, the red gauges, the dash and the over all look of the car. The impala came off to me as more of a family car. As far as the monte, which i liked alot, it was to small and i already have a two door sports car and if i wanted another car i can barly cram people into i would have gotten a GTO : ). Not to knock the monte but thats just what i was looking for. |
^^^Good explanation. On the contrary I bought the Impala because it is a lot more "executive" looking. I wanted something that was smooth and comfortable. Plus everyone knows what Impala SS means. . . .only younger generations know what GXP is :) |
only younger generations know what GXP is
I took off all of the badging on my car, one day I was waiting for my wife to come out of the theater and she heard a couple kids say "Dude that's a GXP no it isn't, that's just a GT" I always get asked what my car is when people pull up to the lights and hear it. And the most typical thing is that's got a v8 who cares its front wheel drive. |
That's what makes the looks on peoples faces even more entertaining after a little run! I chose the GXP because I have had three GPs in the past prior to the GXP. I love the looks on the GPs and the interior is all driver friendly. I know that alot of people see the looks of the GPs as to over the top and think the interior is to "spaceship" like. But I considered the looks of the Impala both inside and out to be to plain for my taste. And the MC SS, well I don't have a mullet or watch Nascar. Tate |
OMG! ANOTHER one of THESE threads :eyes: We ALL know who's better by now! |

Hahahahaha . . . .this is so off topic now. . . .I love it. . .more importantly it is funny to see people get some offended.. . . |
Honestly if you want more speed, save your money. . . . .for now. . . .there isn't going to be a whole lot difference between any of the LS4 siblings. Hold onto the car for another year until the G8s start hitting the market, there is definately a ton more potential there. Or if you really want hold off for another year until they switch from the LS2 powerplant to the LS3 powerplant they are introducing in 2008 to the Vette. |
I got the Impala b/c of the iPod jack. No shit. I love my music. :) |
