LS1 GTO A4 vs LS4's?? I have a LS1 GTO A4 with a diablosport tune and K&N CAI. I'm wondering how do yall think the outcome of a race with an LS4 Grand Prix, Impala, Monte Carlo, would turn out? I've seen all of the LS4's around town and I'd like an idea of how I'd match up. I've heard the LS4's are capable of high 13's just like the LS1 GTO A4. |
If the GTO is a Manual, the LS4 "Might" beable to take it off the line if the driver doesnt know what he is doing. But thats the only way a LS4 would beat a GTO, period. GTO's are quicker. Just keep it on the track and find out from there. |
ive taken a ls1 gto at track on the raod. never raced a ls2 but doubt i would beat that one |
I'm a little off topic but is there a way to tell the difference between an ls1 and ls2 by the outside looks? |

The 2004 goat does not have hood scoops like the 2005-2006. In addition, the 2004 goat's exhaust, while really dual, was routed through a single rear bumper outlet. The 2005-2006 have both a left and right rear bumper outlet. Don't quote me on this, but I think the GTO badge on the front fender says "5.7" for the 2004, and "6.0" for the 2005-2006. |
^^^What he said. And I do believe you are correct BlueChevyGuy about the GTO badge. |

It's hard to tell by the hood because at the end of 04 they were having a hard time moving them. So alot of 04's actually got 05 hoods. And a flat hood was still an option in 05. I think less than 50 actually had them though. the badge or the dual exhaust out both sides is the easiest way to tell. Even though most people I knew with 04's were converting them to the 05 exhaust. I think the LS4 would give them a good run but the goat should win. Unless it is an M6 driver that can't launch very well. Or if you catch them sleeping at the light they would have a hard time catching you. My friends 04 runs 13.2 with just D/R's. |
I was able to line up at the track against 2 ls1 gto's and beat them both (one stick, one auto), the only thing I had done to my Imp at the time was a vector tune. It was a private gto track rental so I was able to see alot of gto's, all seemed to have at least an intake, alot of low 14's high 13's for mostly stock ls1's. I sorta raced 2 ls2 gto's (both 6m) and could keep up with them from a roll. One was from about 15 mph and we stayed together until about 50 and ran into traffic, I was able to talk to this guy for a little. The second ls2 I raced from a 20 mph roll until about 70 and stayed even, he was a little upset. We were able to line up at the next light and he would not look at me. He proceeded to kill me off the line and I gained nothing up to about 80 so I quit. |
The stats,0-60 and quarter mile according to GM are quicker for the auto than the manual. When I had my 06 LS2 GTO(K&N CAI, Predator, custom exhaust) I raced several Montes Impys and 1 GXP and beat them all badly on the street(the real world) never raced on the strip. Now I own a fully stock GXP and have been killed several times by the same local fully stock LS2 GTO, but it's still fun trying. |

The GTO should win without any trouble. My friend has an 04 GTO A4 with just a K&N intake and runs consistant 13.6's at 104 with it. |

I know, I mean that stock for stock the GTO will win everytime. My friend's GTO ran the 13.6 with just an intake, I'm pretty sure it would take more than that for an LS4 to run 13.6. |
a ls1 gto is a bad investment when the ls2 is out there. god u can get a ls1 gto so much cheaper cuz the demand is low. i bet just about every person that bought a 04 gto was pissed when 05 hit |
