Question to guys with BFG DR's I will be heading to the track for the first time with DR's if you could let me know what I need to do that would be great I have been about 4 times on my Street tires about 15 runs but no idea on how much of a burn out if any I need and at what RPM range I should launch. Any help would be great thanks. |
anyone out there running these I just really need to know if you have to do a burn out with these or no? |
I would just do a good burnout. Get the tires good and hot. (Just punch it from a dead stop in drive), Brake stall the car at about 2k then roll into the throttle. Don't just nail it. Because every spinning revolution of the tire not getting traction is taking tenths off your time. Basically go to the track, get your tires hot. stall it and see what they will hold. (how quick you can roll into the throttle without tire spin) It will be a trial and error process. If your running bfg dr i heard you gotta get em pretty hot before they will bite good. I heard you don't have to get nittos as hot to get em to bite. Hopefully this helps. |
I thought the best way to do a burnout on FWD was to just get the car rolling alittle bit and then hit the parking break and floor the gas??? |
With drag radials you usually don't have to get em smoking hot. Just warm to hot. Makes em soft and sticky. Thats what i would try first. Like I said its going to be a trial and error thing. I've never heard that though about doing a FWD burnout. I'm a RWD guy. I've seen guys edge their back wheels to a speed bump then lock the e-brake and nail it. Maybe I try that someday. Learn something new everyday. |
It's not to hard to do burn outs. When your setting still push the ebrake all the way down to lock the rear wheels. Push down a little further and hold with your left foot. With your right foot punch the gas enough to shock the tires loose and bring up the RPMs to around 4500 or so and let the car shift to second. If the car doesn't shift to second you will be doing a one wheel burn out and fry your diff. Hold for maybe 2-3 sec then release the ebrake will letting off the gas a little and the car will pull forward out of the burn out. See... http://s173.photobucket.com/albums/w...nt=Burnout.flv Tate |
Thanks for the info guys now compg should I use the burnout box? |
I'd use the burn out box, whole idea is w rear wheel radial cars to not track the front wheels in the water that the rears can hit after. With fronts heating up from the box, there will not be any water issues. |
I never sit in the burn out box. Just slightly forward of it. Tate |
So just roll through it and then do my burn out got it thanks guys the coming Sunday should be fun. |
Drive around the water box, set the parking brake, mat it and maintain about 5500 till it drags the car forward or you see a decent amount of smoke then let off, release the parking brake and stage. thats how i did with the BFG G force drags i had on my car. Also had them set about 20 psi. It wouldnt take more than a 2500 stall and walk into it off the line w/o blowing the tires off. |
thanks I hope to get some better launches with these my 60Ft are right around 2.5 now with the stock tires. I know I should be quicker with the stock ones but I can't seem to keep them from spinning off the line at any thing above 2000 RPM. |
