What's the right thing to do???

here's my dilema. I sold a set of sheetmetal valve covers to a member. One of the valve covers had a couple dents. I didn't note this in my sale add but they could clearly be seen in the pics I emailed. After the buyer gets the covers they're not happy with the condition. What's the right thing to do? Had I not sent pics I would consider that misleading but since the pics showed the conidition I feel I did no wrong. Thanks for any opinions.

Well, if the pics showed it, dont worry about it. BTW what would a dent hurt?

Zick Feb 15, 2006 08:12 PM

Being that they are something more for show, I sure the buyer wasn't wanting to buy something that had dents in it. Definatly should have been disclosed in the description, cause pictures can be deceiving.

Either try and offer some kind of compensation or refund the buyer back their money.

post the pics up that clearly show the dents...........so we all can judge for ourselves.......

I agree with 68

i say give him back some of his money not all of it.

Havok2 Feb 15, 2006 08:25 PM

i saw give him back a refund and take your dented valve covers back.

Frosty Feb 15, 2006 08:28 PM

It may be the responsibility of the seller to disclose that however it's also up to the buy to ask the questions.

If the dents are clearly shown in the photos well...as they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

These are pic that was sent to me when i was looking to buy the covers, and you can see the dents. And was told they had a few dents in them, They had came off a drag car.

ss_girl Feb 15, 2006 08:46 PM

Yes those are the pics. Randy paid for the covers sight unseen. I then sent pics and they weren't what he wanted and I refunded his money no questions asked. When he asked the condition I hid nothing. The other buyer got the same pics as posted above.

Give him back his money. How would you feel if you were the buyer? That's how I always look at it.

Phate Feb 15, 2006 09:17 PM

The dents should have been listed in the description, regardless of whether or not they show up on the pictures.

You should do what the buyer wants...if he wants his $$$ back then give him a refund, if he is willing to take some $$$ back to offset the difference for damaged covers then do that.

snake charmer Feb 15, 2006 09:20 PM

i would refund the money if it is a honest mistake. as far as the shipping if they want to send them back they should pay that, but the original shipping to them that can be argued either way.

Frosty Feb 15, 2006 09:49 PM

C'mon guys, you can't see those dents? They're clear as day. If you were the buy and saw those pics wouldn't you question something? I mean the dents jump out at you. Sorry but the buyer needs to be held accountable as well here.

Just my opinion.

fast377 Feb 15, 2006 10:04 PM

The dents are plain as day. Buyer should have seen that. If they want a refund, I say refund them and split the shipping. It's pretty civil around here and I would like to think that if I had a problem with anything I bought here, a member would be willing to work with me. Just my $.02

UNDERR8D Feb 15, 2006 10:30 PM

I say they loose the cost of shipping and send them back to you, when you recieve them you should refund their money. Those dents are very clear and he should have noticed but if he is not happy with them he should get his money back but you should not have to pay shipping in either direction. Thats how I would deal with it.

99WS7 Feb 15, 2006 10:32 PM

Refund...If you knew there was a problem then you should have disclosed it...plain and simple, its like you knew but hoped he didn't notice in the pics.

I agree...that's the price you pay when you buy something used. If the buyer had never seen pics then I'd say he def deserves a refund, but like said above...it's pretty clear they there and not in excellent condition.

Would like to see your ad and how they were listed. But yes I see the dents. I buy and sell motorcycles parts on ebay. I get beat up on this all day every day. You just list it the best and honestly as you can. If you did, Just refund the part and not the shipping. Mistakes do happen though as we are only human and you would need to do the right thing and refund the whole amount or what ever it takes to make it right. JMO
