What's the problem?

I have a 95 t/a at and when I get on it there is sometimes a lag, it just takes a few seconds for it to get up and go. Anyone know what it could be? I've been told something by a friend, but i just want a couple more opinions before i go buying parts. any help is greatly appreciated.

Huff035 Oct 14, 2008 04:24 PM

any ideas? i was told the fuel pressure regulator...

shutzero Oct 14, 2008 04:35 PM

could be a clogged cat, idk i kinda had the same problem and that was the issue, or you could have some random misfire, are you throwing a ses light?

EliteCamaro94 Oct 14, 2008 04:46 PM

how many miles are on the car?? i just got a full tune up on my car minus putting in a new opti and my car feels a million times stronger than before. I used to get on it and it would be a little sluggish from a stand still or even during driving in traffic but now i put the hammer down and she goes like she is supposed to i guess as well as a stock car can go lol.

Fuel problem or the Cats clogged..

MTBSully Oct 14, 2008 04:49 PM

have you looked at the plugs yet? are you getting an SES light?

If your cat is clogged, it will usually glow red after you have run the car for a bit.

Huff035 Oct 14, 2008 04:58 PM

the car has 123k miles on it, new wires and plugs. will throw an SES code when i'm just driving around town but if i get on it, it will go away. only comes on in town or if it sits for a while running

shutzero Oct 14, 2008 05:10 PM

bring it to an autozone or something and get it scanned for free

Huff035 Oct 14, 2008 05:19 PM

my uncle is a mechanic and tried to scan it and it wouldnt work, it was like the plug in wasnt even wired up

good way to know if its this is put your hands over the exhaust tips and then over another ones tips....odds are there will be little or next ot none blowing out of your tips if the cat is bad

Just get rid of the Cats to eliminate that problem..:)

that is a good option too if your cats are clogged...95 under only have one though as far as i know...

the_merv Oct 14, 2008 10:18 PM

^^Yea.. most of them. I've seen later model 95's with two, but that's very few of them.

That and OBDI won't throw a code..

I had a similar problem, it turned out to be the driver's side o2 sensor. CE light would come on and the car would start acting sluggish, I'd give it some gas and the light would go out and the car would run fine. Then it would do the same thing while cruising down the highway. It turns out that the o2 sensor grounds to its own housing and the tack weld came aloose I clamped it down and no more problems. But the best thing you could do is get a OBDI to usb from Moates and download DataMasters software, you get 20 free uses. You'll find out what you code it that way. Good Luck

My 95 has 2 cats.To my understanding 95 A4 only cars that were originally to be sold in CA got 2 cats.My car has the OBD2 plug connector too,but the computer is still OBD1.

jarretthise Oct 15, 2008 02:55 AM

95 cars were all sorts of wierd too

gatorhead Oct 15, 2008 04:18 AM

The best advice is t get the sure thing by retrieving the codes. You say your uncle tried to get them, it is an OBII connector, but still and OBDI computer.

mine only has one cat

jarretthise Oct 15, 2008 07:02 AM

you are going to have to use a different scanner...one that is compatible with both...snapon is a good one to use...take it to a shop man have them run your codes and then bring it home and fix it...just do what i said to do before, put your hand over the exhaust tips, but cover both tips and if its not allowing air to blow through then its your cat...you will know once you put your hands over the tips what i am talking about!! let us know
