I did some searching and got answers going both ways. I am planning to run a cc503 with aluminum 1.6 SA rr's and crane gold dual springs.
Will this set-up work fine with stock studs?

I'd put in a set of ARPs. It's cheap insurane and easy to do while the car's apart.

I agree the stock studs are a weak link at higher rpm's.

I'd probably jump on the ARP bandwagon too..

then again, I'm running a comp 503 with 1.6 promags and older comp 918's with stock studs.

I've raced probably 200ppl on the street and 70 track passes, massive burnouts, and multiple trips to 6500+.

never had a problem in around 12k miles.

it's your choice, but I've never had a problem with mine with the exact same cam.

The stock studs are pressed in correct? How do you put the ARP's in? Do you have to tap the holes?

no, the stock studs on f-body Lt1 heads are screw in.

Yup and theres a touqh spec also just not sure what it is.


I also switched to ARP studs.

i would ditch the SA rocker idea all together!

Dont the centerbolt valvecovers intefere with 7/16 rocker arms? Dont LT1s need a narrowbody rocker?

the valve cover can be trimmed @ the support rail inside if needed,the use of narrow body rockers helps fittment. it's worth the small amount of modifacation.....

So If you have aftermarket covers without the support rails, standard SBC rockers will fit just fine?

yes,be sure to get taller valve covers for an Lt1 or you will have to do mods to the alternator(bottom) to clear.

No, you will have to clearance the inside of your stock valvecovers. Try a search, this topic has been beat like a dead horse!

don't run stock studs..... I snapped a stock stud in half idling with a STOCK cam when all I had was bolt ons and 1.6 comp cams pro magnum RR's and ****....

thank god it didn't hang the valve open....

get ARP hardened studs.... and yes you will need to cut the inside of the valve covers...
