I see it that ported TFS 21* heads would be a poor choice for a max effort build. Just from how AI says they compare to their GM 200cc heads

If you notice in their post about porting the heads, they just did basically a touch up on the heads, not a full port job on them. Out of the box they nearly flow the same as some LE2 heads and with only 185cc runners. If these are anything like the regular Trickflows they can be ported out to 215cc+ and can flow over 300 cfm once properly ported

well it mentions in thise thread as well that the 215cc heads (23*) are the better option for max effort builds. I would think that AI would do a full port job on these heads if it was possible

i would recommend buying a set of AFR 220 or 227 heads. you can get what ever combustion chamber you need. i used AFR heads and the work great and thats no b/s.

Well comparing the 23* TFS to 21* TFS heads, the 21*'s should make more power in any application with comparable porting done to them. The 23's are only recommended for stroked or boosted applications NOT because they are better for porting, it's ONLY because of the larger combustion chambers allowing for a more favorable compression ratio. Anytime you take equal heads and lower the valve angle, as in this case, you allow for better airflow.

Maybe AI or LE can chime in on this and post some flow numbers for some 'fully' ported 21* TFS heads if they have done any yet.

If the 21* heads are just cut down 23* heads and not a all new casting then the 23* heads would have another advantage for blower guys in that the deck will be thicker.

I don't know if the 21* heads are new/different castings or not. Does anyone know?

I remember reading that the 21* heads are all new castings, with a thinner, less boost friendly deck then the original TFS heads.

The real benefit is the out of the box, small chamber, tiny runner performance. They match many ported stockers as-cast, and surpass any ported stocker when fully ported. As a simple buy and bolt-on job on a mild 350 they will be hard to beat for the price since you don't need to spend extra money on them.

I would still get the original TFS heads or AFRs for a very aggressive build though.
