My clutch went boom!!!! Pics inside
Finally got around to tearing down the T56 to see what broke about 2 weeks ago. Well, turns out the clutch disk grenaded after 1 track pass followed by a WOT run on the street the next day.
Pulled the slave cylinder and there were chunks of the disk everywhere. Once I finally was able to pull everything apart this is what I found...
BTW-Can anyone identify the PP and disk? I think they're AC Delco but IDK.
Missing half the clutch material...LOL!!!!
Very little left on this side too!

I can't believe centerforce put a new friction material on an oem disk and expected it to last. I bent my stock disk, and I know a few people who ripped their stock disks in half. I would consider yourself lucky that the friction material came off before you broke or exploded the disk.

Damn, that doesn't look pleasant, lol.
I'm glad I didn't go with the Centerforce on my LS1. I was really considering it, but the company that was selling it said not to bother unless the car was stock, lol.

LOL, yeah i'm starting to think the same thing, i just installed a centerforce disc in mine, i beat the leaving chit out of my stock clutch/pp & it stayed together (chatter & all), but needless to say i didn't know it was stock, i was told it was a Ram when i bought the car

Discs exploding seems to be a common thing as of lately, i tore my car down about a month ago and this is what i found
Clutch appears to be an OEM unit with about 65,000 miles of spirited driving and about 50-60 track passes

Yeah, I was trying to sell the car a while back. GOt lots of calls/emails/PMs but no one brought any cash. I fixed the miss(bad opti) it had, and now its sitting with no clutch....LOL!!!!
So your on a stock clutch? Im debating whether or not to buy an AC Delco unit but, that's still in the air at this point. I want to buy the disk and just reuse my PP/flywheel but Im also insure what to do?
Any ideas guys?

I wouldn't reuse the pressure plate. Just get a new one, since you also get the TO bearing with it. Its just added insurance that a new one shouldn't break compared to a used one.
