Guys im trying to decide what heads to go with, Tell me what ya got and what dyno numbers ya got and how you like em.

The cam i will be using is a Comp XFI 242/248 584/579 113

Are you keeping the stock shortblock???

If so you should know someone tried that cam already and at 7000rpms it had not peaked yet. Comp's rpm ranges are WAY WAY off.

I am using www.advancedinduction.com ported GM heads, they will get my buisiness for as long as I am modifying cars. Very happy.

I run that cam on a stock shortblock with TFS heads. It doesn't rev past 7grand. Why would Comp Cams market an LT1 cam that revs beyond 7 grand when they know perfectly well that the computer pukes at that point. My first track day out of the box got me 11.7's, it has 11.5's in it with a little tweaking of the tune. My compression ratio is less than stock also since the TFS heads have bigger chambers.

I would get some different heads to run this cam. An AI TFS cnc'd set would do wonders with this cam.

I had a comp 230/236 576/570 113 on my old car. I have heard good things on the 242/248 cam. So after looking it seems the 180AFR's or the Trick flows are probably the top two choices

Will the stock head work with this big of cam? I did have stock heads on the 230/236 cam which is just below the cam im goin with now, I just wanna be sure

I know I can make more power with a worked aftermarket casting and intake, but these are still doing well with only 2.00 / 1.55 LS6 valves

I really doubt it. My heads flow just a little beter than stock TFS 195 heads. I would guess they are around the 260 mark. I shift at 6600rpm. I don't think a stock factory head will support that rpm or nearly enough airflow to make that cam work properly. I really think that my car is over-cammed or under-headed, however you want to look at it. I wouldn't go bigger than the CC306 on stock factory castings.

Im running the GM-847 cam which is 234/242 duration 575/595 lift (w/ 1.6 rockers) on a 112* LSA. If I had to do it over again, there would be a custom grind in my car. The 847 cam works great dont get me wrong, but when we had it on the dyno my tuner took it to 6800 rpms and the cam was still making great power. A matter of fact 6800 rpms is where the car made its peak HP. That cam that you are wanting to put in your car is much bigger than my 847. So I will agree with 96caprice on this one saying that you will need to spin your engine WAY high to make power. HP numbers mean nothing when it comes to ET. Its all about the area under the curve.....

i just got a set off the trick flow gen x heads out of summit...i will be running flat top pistons to keep the compression around stock...i will also be using the 847 cam in a forged 383 that should be done next week..

Wayyy too much for a stock shortblock car, unless you want to shift 6700+ rpm and run crazy high gearing.

With ALL cams go with the best heads you can afford for your engine size, period. Heads are where the power is made.

I spin a mid 220s duration cam to 6500 as do most others running cams of that size.

Comp's rpm ranges are based on gen 1 stuff and fail to consider the ultra short intake runners of the LT1 raising the rpm range for a given duration.

New set up I'm running will have Dart 200s and a CC306, I got the Darts at an awesome price, so that had a lot to do with my decision, plus I can still sell my LT1 heads and get some money back.

So you guys think it would be a good idea to tone down the cam. I spun my old car to 6800 with the 230/236 cam, Hmm maybe bigger is not better in this situation. Now im starting to think i should use th eold 230/236 set upi with the stock short block since that is what the car will have.

I would seriously consider a custom grind cam. Tell whoever specs the cam what your willing to spin your motor to, and your goals HP/ET and let them do the magic on the cam.

Advanced Induction, Lloyd Elliot, Port Pros, etc. Talk with whoever you decide to do your heads. Im running Lloyd Elliots Stage 2 head and have had good luck with my set up. 96Caprice has Advanced Induction setup and swears by them. You cant lose eitherway you go because your going to have a smile from ear to ear the first time you take it out for some abuse.
