OK so we're going to yank the heads off this GENI motor going into an S10 and I figured we might as well get a bit more compression from it, but the only gaskets I know the thickness on are LTx motors, .026 .028 .039 .051 and I don't know what the 'stock' TBI's thickness is. If all that needs to be done is drilling holes for the coolant passages, then that's fine. Unless some of you know of a ~.030 thickness head gasket.

Also, the cam we're using is just a BBody (4.3 I think) LTx cam, but when we were adjusting the valves initially they were REALLY squishing. I think there's going to be quite a bit of float OR breakage on them (motor hasn't ran yet). So I figure people here upgrade frequently enough that someone must have some old stocker springs they'd sell for dirt cheap Anyone, anyone, Bueller? Beaflag?

Thanks guys.

Do not use the LT1 gaskets on a Gen1 SBC. You will have water problems.

The std SBC gasket is a .039. Thinner shims are available, but I do not recommend them with any lightweight head from the 80's-90's

I had some LT4 springs & retainers, I'll make you a deal on, if I can find them.

These are your run of the mull cast iron heads, so they're not light

I'll let you know about them JB, I'll tell my friend tomorrow.

You missed my point.... it is not that they are heavy because they are cast iron, but the "lightweight casting" design that was implemented in the 80's on all iron heads. Many of these heads easily warp & are leak prone, so a composite gasket is recommended on these.

Go to the FelPro Gasket website. They show how to identify these heads.

heh That link results in a forum error. Seems like the thread has either been archived or deleted :S

We have a B-Body cam in it right now (90% sure it's a 4.3 one, but either way it's better than the craptacular TBI one), and that's what has created the need for some better springs. My buddy figured that since the V8 is now going into a pickup, rather than the Blazer it's been sitting in, he's going to pop off the heads to make sure the cylinders haven't gotten any surface rust, hence the question on the gaskets. Yet since the springs in those heads are not going to survive long with that cam, I figured that with all the cam swaps, some stockers would be available cheap

Thanks for the info Lonnie, sadly Fel-Pro's gasket site isn't of any help since I'm not able to navigate to the information you're referring to (and this isn't fel-progaskets.com either, this is Federal Mogul's Fel-Pro site).

Reminded my friend today about it, he said he has to figure out where he'll get the few bucks, but if this guy who said he wanted to buy this truck he picked up pays him, then he'll be able to. If by next week he isn't able to afford it right yet, I'll probably get the springs from either of you guys and let him owe me even more heh

Sorry Mike, the Baby LT1 cam that's in there will be more than enough for that TBI system. I'm not even sure how well it'll work out with the mystery aftermarket chip that's in the computer we'll be using heh Thanks though. You should look into your forsale link in your sig too. The link from your profile's post threads page has a slightly different thread number in it. This is the one that works.

If I had them you could have them. I included them when I sold both sets of my LT1 heads.
