Whats the difference between the F-Body and Roadmaster LT1's? I tried searching both this site and google, and couldnt find that much info about them. I'm looking to swap a lower milage engine into my Formula, and found an LT1 engine and transmission for sale that came out of a 94 Roadmaster. I know they have some diffenences, but I wasnt completely positive. Is it just the heads and intake manifold?? And if so, would I just be able to take the ones off my current formula and put them on there, and would that make it still identical to my current one? I know some LT1's were different in the caprices, but how so in the Roadmaster??? I'm going be checking it out shortly, so any info would help. Thanks, - Mike |
And should it just swap right in too? Or is there anything else I will have to do to get it to work? |
B-body has cast iron heads, flow very well but heavy don't dissapate heat like alum. B-body has a camshaft that is designed for bottom end TQ as far as the internals: rotating assm. i believe they are identical |
Sweet! Thanks! Do you know if the computer in the F-Bodies would be able to work on it too? And if theres anything else I will need?? One more thing, I'd like to keep the transmission thats in my Formula right now which is a A4, would that work with the roadmasters LT1 engine? Or will it not bolt up? Thanks again!! Thanks, - Mike |

Thanks, - Mike 1994-1996 B-bodies (including L99 4.3L): 191/196 0.418/0.430 lift 111 LSA trans shouldn't be an issue (swap all your brackets/acc./waterpump,etc.) if your current pcm isn't having issues I'd stay with it.. gl on the swap :) |
I decided to just buy the engine and not the transmission, and will be picking it up tommrow and hopefully starting on it thursday. |
good luck let us know how it goes :D |
The block itself is the same. Beware of th "baby" lt-1. Its a 265 cid motor not a 350. These things were only in the b bodies. Look for casting # 10168588 and 4.3 cast into the block. |
