Torsen and 4.10's Hey guys Im about to put some 4.10's in my 94z but I have a torsen posi out of a 97 SS and my question is, do I need a slp paddle kit or is there a brand or set that will work without modifications?? Anyone thats been through this please help!! |
i have a torsen in my car. i wasnt aware 97 came with a torsen but i could be wrong. anyway i didnt need to modify anything to get it in mine. just make sure which carrier you have |
96 and 97 SS camaros have a torsen limited slip and the Z28's have an auburn limited slip right? |
i didnt think they came until 01-02 but i could be wrong. |

Well I have taken my diff cover off and I know its a torsen cause it doesnt have those little yellow clutches that the auburn uses, the torsen from what I have read uses gears instead of clutches? |

you don't need that paddle kit, it is just a waste of money. If you have a grinder that is all you need when you try and install the paddle back in to the carrier you will see where it is gonna hit. Grind off the two spots on the corners and your done no need to spend money that you don't have to. I think there is a write up on here somewhere with pics do a search you will find it. |
Sweet! I have a grinder so looks like its not gonna be much of a problem then! Thanks guys!! |
From my research it's 99+ ONLY that had Torsen. But it's easy to tell if you have it by removing the diff cover. If you see a lot of gears, and no springs, you have it. |

I just installed one last week and the only thing I had to do from typical install was press the abs ring on the od of the torsen. fyi it was torsen into 94 |
I swapped to one of the torsen Hd diffs way back when I put 4:10's in. It looked like a way better diff than the stocker. |
Well I have heard the torsen is better for lots of turning and auburn is stronger for straight line racing? Got me the 4.10's are going in no matter what :D |
I personally think that by looks, the Torsen looks loads stronger. Dunno, to me gear on gear just seems like it'd hold up against springs and clutches. Sure, the clutches might get you home at the end of the night (figuratively speaking) but I've had my 91 with high miles clutches. Right corners, posi when you layed into it, left corners though... WOOHHOOO One Wheel Wonder! Yea, I thought it was odd too. Anyways, That's what people have said on here to me as well Zlicious. I guess I'd have to heard from a long time racer who's thoroughly used both and broken both as to which really is the better choice. To which I'm sure the answer would be "Spool!" lol |
