What's the quickest/cheapest for 12s?

Ok, I've run a 13.15 But I want a 12 second car and I want to do it cheap.

I've got $400 right now, but I don't want to spend it all on the car. What can I do for cheap BESIDES weight reduction, that can get me a 12?

Mods:
3.42s
MADZ tune
OEM ramair
LPPs--->open ORY
3200 stall
DRs on stock 93TA rims.

I've got a cooler thermostat ready to go in (currently still stock) and I haven't done the bypass either.

I'm wondering if skinnes can get me a lot closer, but they will go over my cost. I also am wondering if my suspension (stock) is allowing too much squat and if some mods back there might net some gains.

Basically what would you do for cheap to hit 12s from where I am?

Maybe a set of roller rockers. You can probably pick up a used set for $150 or so, then some $50 LT4 springs.

You should already be in the 12's though, what kind of 60' times are you pulling? and MPH?

buckner01 Jan 21, 2009 03:55 PM

a universal efi nitrous kit hit it with a 50 shot and it will get you in the 12s

Elliott's94Z Jan 21, 2009 03:56 PM

4.10's and some Micky T's :)

I've thought of this route, but I don't want to have to redo the springs cause they suck so bad. I'm the do it once, do it right type.

My 60' is 1.82 and 102.6mph @ 1700' DA. I'm in AZ, so I am slightly behind other parts of the country.

For my valvetrain setup I'd have to get hardened pushrods and guideplates too as I'd go NSA.

These are well over what I want to spend.

If your on .15 off go 3.73's that should knock a couple tenths off.

buckner01 Jan 21, 2009 04:08 PM

you can pick up a universal kit on ebay for right around 400 some are a hair less some are a lot more

Elliott's94Z Jan 21, 2009 04:14 PM

How about a electric water pump then? Maybe them rockers too.

This I also lump into the do it once do it right category. I will not "upgrade" a 10 bolt.

This doesn't include the safety stuff, and I'm not blowing my motor just to hit 12s when I can potentially do it cheaper and safer.

If/when I do nitrous it'll be with a proper setup.

As you all see, I'm quite picky. The EWP I don't want to do on a daily driver in AZ, plus this won't net enough of a gain from what I've heard and with rockers in addition, I'm overbudget again.

LSWHO Jan 21, 2009 04:16 PM

I could easily wait a week or two and do a cam, but I don't want to go overboard. I want to barely hit 12s for as cheap as I can right now.

C_Rules Jan 21, 2009 04:17 PM

maybe some strange single adjustable rear shocks if you install them yourself should be under 400.

blackz6sp Jan 21, 2009 04:19 PM

Then if you can't handle any of those mods just learn how to drive it, with the mods you have you should already be in the 12's:D lol

Edit: unhook your front sway bar it's freeee!

thats what I was about to say, also if you have a stereo system with good size subs, box, and amp its possibly already a 12sec car. every 100lbs is .1

I could def tell a difference in power when I did the pump and March pulley set up. Good for another 12-14 to the rear

E-wp, Mickey's, shed some weight.

LT1 Jan 21, 2009 04:42 PM

Used set of rear LCA, LCA relocate bracket, and if you have money left over used adjustable torque arm.

Like said earlyer remove front swaybar.

i HIGHLY disagree with the above statement. i spray a 175 shot on a BONE STOCK bottom end lt1. i have been spraying for about 3 years. as long as you do it right, you will have no problem. meaning, run at least 100 octane when you spray more than 100 shot. also, pull about 8 degrees of timing out of the top end. BUT, if you spray a 100 or less, to be SAFE, just run 100 octane. AND, there is a brand new lt1 wet efi kit 75-150 for 340$ WITH bottle. check it out....

A harder launch - how was your sixty foot time?

I'd say save the money and do a cam/roller rocker swap when you have enough saved up. If you buy used parts, you're actually pretty close to having enough.

I thought I was the only one who thought like that.

Used nitrous kit and be done with it... Way back when my car was running and stock...lol I was running 14.0 - 14.2 bone stock 6spd. Bought a used TNT wet kit.(350.00) at the time. Slapped it on, went to the track and pulled constant 12.4 - 12.5. with a best of 12.24 all on a 75 shot.
