Default Maybe my LT1/LT4 brothers can help...

I posted this in the PCM/tuning board and after two days I got not so much as 1 view and NO help.
So I know I can count on the LT1 brotherhood

I want to get into tuning myself because there are a few small issues like a crappy idle/start issues that I want to fix and I want to learn ho to do it myself. My car it a 97 with an obd1 pcm program.

I am going to get the ALDL cable, I know which one of those I need( thats the easy part) but I want to know what would be the best software to use for a beginner like me.

Is this something that can be picked up fairly easily< I am a pretty quick learner but not a rocket scientist>

I am sure someone will chime in as to which software they recommend, but as far as the issues with your idle and startup, are you sure they are tune related? What are your mods? If you are stock, look for the actual problem.

P.S. I have read that Jet Tuner is a version of Tuner Cat which is a computer based tuning software, similar to HP Tuners if I understand it correctly.

No it's definately not stock. I am having an issue where sometimes The car needs a touch of the gas pedal after I run it for a while and then shut it off to run into a store. and sometimes if I do this the idle goes really low like 450-550 rpms or dies completely. but I can usually shut the car off and wait a sec, then start it again with a tap ot the gas pedal and then the idle returns to normal.

But I really want to know about the tuning software question, becasue I really want to learn to tune it myself (its just how I am, I dont like ANYONE messing with my car)

you'll want "freescan" or "TTS datamaster" to scan it... and either "LT1 Edit" or "Tunercats" to tune it. That/those along w/ a laptop and cable, and you are good to go.
