Default Can i get a nice LT1 for $5000?

Title pretty much says it, in about 12 weeks i will have $5000 cash in hand to buy my first "toy" car. I am a diesel but and my buddy is into cars, kinda got me started. I love the red camaros with z06 wheels on them! I am looking for a red preferably or black LT1 car. Needs to have t-tops and a m6. Black leather would be a big plus. Miles arent that huge of an issue with me i suppose, my buddy is very mechanicaly inclined. He said to look for one with headers already as he says it's a bitch to put them on but he'll do it if i can't find one with. Am i being too picky or not? I know what i want but not sure if my price range will get it for me? Anyone with any advice or anything please reply, i have been researching a lot about these cars and the lt1. I'm in ohio, anything else i missed feel free to reply or pm me! Thanks a lot and i already love this forum! I check it a lot daily as well as dieselplace.com for my lbq duramax. Can't wait to get into a camaro!!

Forgot to mention i have read all the newbie lt1 articles as well as the 9 page thread about the auto vs. the m6. Great replies, talked me RIGHT into wanting a 6 speed. Never owned a manual before besides my sport quad, should take some getting used to but i'm buying this as a toy for myself after my 4 months straight of 65 plus hour weeks, and i want it for the fun factor

Hell yeah you can get one for 5k. I picked up mine for $5500 with 83k miles on it. Clean body, in great shape. Check the classifieds on here, theres usually some great deals.

Wow you both have some sweet looking rides! Would the for sale ads on here be better then going off of craigslist?

i would recommend craigslist.... although, you'll be less likely to find shady people on autotrader (that's where i got my car.) craigslist is really hit or miss. you can get an amazing deal or you can get it up the butt. with 5k you should be able to get a beautiful LT1 with some good modifications.

I got my formula for less than a grand, bad opti and stuck EGR valve. I drove it home and have been DD'ing it everyday since I bought it almost 8 months ago.

Two things. Don't rush your purchase and shop around. There are deals all over especially in this economy, if you settle on the first thing you see you will be kicking yourself in the pants when the sweet deal passes you by.

some other cheaper cars listed in the for sale section, but this appears to be a very nice car for the price IMO

It crazy how many people give up on LT1's after long troubleshooting periods, only to have the new owner replace the opti and all problems are solved.

Ha yeah I was ready to give up on a build of mine about 4 years ago. We were out there everyday trying to figure out what the deal was. Ended up having a dead opti. I was so pissed. The thing sat for like 3-4 weeks all because of a stupid opti.

M6s are a lot of fun, but just remember the 10 bolt is pretty weak. If you have any plans for some track times, an auto would be a better choice. But buy what you want, just shop around for the best deal.
