K so, I am selling my other car and will have $3,500 left over after I pay off the loan. The T/A needs a top-end rebuild, a new rear, and some new suspension components (namely a tq arm.) I cold also get it painted or buy a beater. What should I get done?
BTW, I'm not giving the money to you...

I have been needing one...although once I have a beater I never actually finish any work I'm doing on my car. Maybe I can pick up a $1,000 beater and use the rest on the car
And Fergy i'd prolly go with LE because I can literally drive over to his shop.

97 M6 T/A, 121k, about 300rwhp give or take. Stock replacement clutch right now. All the engine bolt-on's except 1.6RR's. I have done intake, full exhaust, no emissions stuff on the car, no a/c, E-wp, new timing chain, and a bunch of little stuff.

Oooh good point. I've been considering a Dana for awhile now, I just don't like all the weight that comes with it. Do they make light axles for them? I'd like to cut down on rotating weight.

Sounds like another candidate for an H/C/I project
I'd do that first, then look into suspension with what is left over.
(Keep it in your savings account in the mean time, in case you run into surprises)
As for a beater, (and assuming you are comfortable doing the work yourself) shop around
Craigs list or the local papers for decent cars with expensive problems like blown head
gaskets. People generally get quotes from shops to fix them and decide they'd rather
dump the car for next to nothing and buy something else instead. For $200 in gaskets/fluids
and a weekend of work (Less for an I-4) you can have yourself a perfectly good beater to drive around in.
I picked up a 93 V6 Tbird with 115K on the ODO for $500 16 months ago.
I figured it would last me the few weeks it took to do my motor swap in the hawk
and maybe through th winter. I'm still driving it around, best $500 (+$200) spend ever LOL.
The hardest part is resisting the temptation to mod it. LOL
I'd do that first, then look into suspension with what is left over.

I second your logic. I bought a 1997 Nissan Sentra with cosmetic damage in the front and rear. Pulled out the dents myself, painted it with white spray paint, tied the bumpers on with wire, and had myself a quality beater with 70k miles on it. Paid $200.
It lasted a good 2 years. Best $200 I ever spent!

Me and my fiance have sentras and they are great cars and you can pick them up cheap most of the time because they are cheap from new. Easy to work on and reliable too. Just be careful you don't get caught up in a nickel and dimer that eats at your project money. Only do what you have to to keep the thing running if it truely is a "beater".

Since you are an M6, I'd personally go with rear and suspension... Most people figure stock 10 bolt with higher mileage is only good for 350ish-whp with the M6 and with a nice top-end, you will be WELL over that

You live in TX, you dont have to deal with snow or rust
Fbodies are a pretty reliable car, so daily drive it!
I would do a topend thats street freindly if your keeping it as your sole car.
Id also do the oil pump just in case

Also take the car to a very rep detail/auto body shop and have the body touched up and have the paint restored.
Have them wet sand it if needed, and buff it like new
Trust me, most the time you can really bring the paint back to life

Well I would like to keep some miles off of it, it needs a new rear pretty badly b/c I've launched it hard more than a few times and it's screaming at me now. I might pick up a beater for like a grand, get a new rear, pick up some suspension stuff (k-member, a-arms, tq arm, etc...), then save for an LE3x383 combo.
