Best Replacement Engine For 95 Impala SS
 

In Your Opionion... Weekend Car so not worried about poor gas mileage. Want to run a high ten low eleven 1/4 mile. But if I fall short of that goal it wouldn't be the end of the world. Open for suggestions

Are you talking like LT1, LS1, LQ4, etc? Or are you talking about crate engines? being a bit more specific would help.

Sorry I would prefer an lt1 style engine as my budget is around 7000 but I'm open to any suggestions whether it be short block to start off with, or a crate engine from whatever company

I've been looking for the same thing myself, looks like the GOLEN street 383 is the way to go, need to replace the injectors, have a decent intake & exhaust setup but seems like 4 ur budget and what you stated about MPG etc that's 4 U 2.... PM me if you find something else similar. the GM replacement LT1 motor has been discontinued, I was trying to find one local sitting around but haven't

IMO, stay away from anything Golen assembles with a cast crank. The Eagle cast cranks have been known to break, quite frequently. If you have time, read the Golen engine thread.

yeah not to mention that's not exactly a drop in replacement which seems like what the poster is after...why not tell the guy to drop in a LS7?

$7000 is maybe enough for supporting mods, not enough for an engine and if the car was already setup that is not enough to build a 10 second NA motor, maybe barely enough to do an engine that with nitrous would do 10s but is not enough to buy the nitrous setup.

I would echo the avoid Golen comments.

Do you currently have a motor in the car that can be rebuilt? I hear good things on this site about Advanced Induction building complete motors and they may be able to work with a workable core...I have a Lingenfelter 383 that has 14 years on it and its performed flawlessly but it may be a bit pricey...I'd call both places and feel them out...My particular motor has a Lunati crank, Oliver billet steel 5.85" I beam rods and JE pistons and is fairly bullet proof...

As far as going 10s n/a in a boat like the Impala thats going to be a tall order as those cars are just damn heavy...I think high 11s may be more doable with the right parts...

AI does do engines but they are good and therefore not cheap.

10s NA has been done in an Impala, Mike Harris has gone 10.5 at 125 on the rev limiter with his 383 topped with AI 200cc heads, is a solid roller setup. Mike does awesome suspension work and the car lifts both fron tires nice and level to about 16-18". He does street drive the car but it is not something you would want to continuously put miles on 3800lbs, 4.88 gears, spool, are not what most folks envision driving every weekend.
The car is still nice, and is as light as you can go without cutting it up.

There is one other NA 10 second car but it is a carved up basket of rust and zip ties.

I have the originial motor and it runs(pretty roughly though, having over 200,000 miles)but I couldn't tell you whether or not of could be used to be rebuilt performance wise( having no previous experience in this sort of thing, but I appreciate the help and will take your advice and give both company's a call
