Default oil leak from the timing cover area?

I changed out my opti a while back and now it seems I have a oil leak from somewhere in that area.I changed the opti seal in the timing cover when I changed the opti.I tore it down and it doesnt look like its coming from the opti.It looks like its leaking from around the water pump seal but I didnt think there would be that much oil behind that seal.I replaced the O rings with the opti.Do the O rings seal oil too?I just ordered all new O rings aand seals for the opti and water pump. How do I get the seal out from the timing cover for the waterpump drive?Have any of you had leaks from the timing chain cover area?Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also its not leaking from the crank hub seal. Its leaking from somewhere up higher.

Mine seems to be doing the same thing. I belive the only way to get the waterpump seal is by having it pressed out from the back, meaning the timing cover has to come off....

no you shouldnt have to take off the cover to get the waterpump seal off. there is a slot where you can pry it out on.

Nope!!! The seals all can come out with the TC in the car and in fact since the WP seal has the pry area to remove it this make it the easiest of the 3. Just did all 3 of mine last week with the TC on the motor. Easy job, the tricky part is getting the WP seal back on correctly and without ripping it. Good luck.

VERY common leak after WP or Opti install.

You remove the seal from the front, pry it out and don't worry about destroying it, you will.

put the new one on "dry" no grease. Use a socket or "Sharpie" pen cap to slide the seal on first then put socket or cap over WP drive and slide the seal on being carefull NOT to fold the lip of seal over when sliding on WP drive shaft. Use larger socket and hammer to tap seal in place.

I have to check tolerances, but I'll have the specific tool for the seal for sale shortly. This will ensure seals will not rip when you install it

yeah a sharpie pen cap. However the ACTUAL kent moore tool for doing the seal is over $40 last time I checked. I had a .dwg drawing made of the KM tool, and had them turned from aluminum.

I don't use the cap, I use the pen body. It has to be long enough to slip over the whole shaft and seat where the seal goes.

For anyone interested, I have 20 of these drive seal tools for sale in the parts for sale section. (I figured I'd let you know in case you don't check that section).
