What are you guys paying local shops to do this?

I'd say around $1000 is a good bet. That's what it cost my brother.

He became insanely pissed off when I did mine myself in a day.

Yeah I'm putting a cam intake manifold opti and headers for a friend but didn't want to charge too much.

If someone wanted me to do a cam install for them, I'd charge $500. Hey, I enjoy it.

Same here. 500 is what I usually charge for a stranger.

worst part is swapping the valvesprings (mainly if it's a dual coil spring) and oil pan (mainly if it has an oil cooler) besides that it's just time

It is a full days labor for someone who has every tool handy and experience doing it. It will take an easy 8-hours to do.

they charged me 300 bucks to take out and put an lt1 enging im 96 and turn it on

My buddy who is a GM tech did it for 400 on the side, a speedshop will be more expensive.
