I don't.

No offense, but the "I have a friend" thing means nothing to me. Time slips or a dynograph (even then results can be questionable) are the only thing that matters.

Hell dyno graphs and time slips dont mean shit anyway if you want to say that. Temp, humidity, density altitude, driver, ect..., everything makes a diffrence and every car is different. What my car puts down here at 500ft density altitude on a 95 degree day with 70 percent humidity will put something different than someone elses at 2000 ft with zero humidity on a 50 degree day with the same set up so dyno graphs and time slips mean shit unless you take everything into consideration. 400rwhp with a properly set up hot cam car with all supporting mods is possibe. I only say that because he made the pulls on his the same day I did. Actually after I did and from my understanding the numbers I put down were pretty expected for a stock a4 car and so were his for a full bolt on m6 car. To squeeze out the extra 70hp or so from his car would be an easy target for a hot cam kit and good cylinder heads, given the right conditions.

It's not really fair to say it's not the best cam either. Best cam in what? lol. There are cams out there that will make far more power than a hotcam, but will suck ass in driveability and fuel economy. It's like comparing bananas to roasted pastachios

All I wanted to know is, Who has the Fastest Car With an lt4 hotcam in it! And What does it RUN?

buckner163 05-11-2009 10:07 PM

Lots of talk about dyno numbers but very little about track times.

1.79 60' 7.87 90.1mph best 1/8th Knoxville dragway

1.89 60' 12.32 115.3mph best 1/4 with a 20mph headwind. Atlanta dragway.

It is what it is.

Here's what mine did back in '99-'00. Mods back then were SLP dual cat headers into stock catted y-pipe, SLP/Borla catback, pulley, 1.6 rockers, 1LE driveshaft, 4.10 gears, among other misc bolt ons.

12.44@111.27 on a 1.75

Passed tailpipe emissions and gets good gas mileage. It was fairly quick back then but no really today. Hope to get some long tubes on it one of these days as that should really help since the SLP's and stock y-pipe are pretty restrictive.

Is it the best cam? Far from it!

I don't know what all the discussion is about. :eyes:

Which cam is the best, and why isn't everyone running it?

True, that's why I said even then results can be questionable, but it's still more substantial then "I saw a guy run x.xx" or "I have a buddy who makes xxx rwhp".

I still have yet to see a LT4 hot cammed car make 400rwhp.

True, you have to pick the cam that is optimal for your set up. But even for a stock cubed LT1 there are much better cams out there, the CC503 for one.

I can't tell you what is the best cam (that's subjective). But usually the reason for not running a more optimal cam is misinformation or lack of research.

I have been running my hot cam for 8 years now and like the drivability and the 22mpg on the highway. I have 355ci stock ported heads by me with manly stock size valves, most of the bolt on's with stock exhaust thru cat's and borla mufflers. I ran 12.037 at 115.49mph with a 1.64 60ft.
I just put shorty headers on and ran 12.038 at 116.34mph with a 1.67 60ft on April 26th 2009. I don't have a dyno number but I plan on doing it this summer. If I didn't drive the car on the street I would go bigger but I like the mild manners for a weekend cruzer.

Nice times. What was your race weight, trans, gear, tire, any suspension mods?

BTC 05-12-2009 11:48 AM

"Best cam" is subjective, while "not the best cam" isn't subjective?

Vettestir 05-12-2009 11:49 AM

It's a 96 Vette with 3.73 gears, A4 trans w/2800 stall, Hoosier QTP DOT 9.50X26X16 tires, Bone stock suspension, 3565 race weight. I bracket race the car and it runs very consistent. I have over 2000 passes with that cam and engine plus some street driving.

x2 on exact mods cause thats a pretty effin nasty time for a exhaust manifold car :barf: funny how you ran just a tad slower with the shorties too

Vettestir 05-12-2009 12:20 PM

The shorty headers didn't really do much maybe 1mph. I need to get rid of that rensenator in the stock exhaust system or just get long tubes and cut outs. The combo has worked so well I don't want to mess with it. I've won alot of Trophy's with it and made the ET finals almost every year. I'm currently in 3rd place at Pacific Raceways Pro bracket so I not touching a thing.

^ Daaaaamn nice, well if i was in the running [top 3] i wouldnt be changing anything else either! :chug:
