Default How hot have you gotten your engine and symptoms afterwards!

Okay, a friend ran his LT1 Z28 to the red zone, which is REAL hot I am sure.
I don't own a Z28, but a Vette, and our gauges are different.
He said he ran it for 10-15 minutes in and out of traffic till he got home. Then it made god awful sounds. No water out the tail pipe, and no water in the oil.
The plugs were a little wet, no gas smell. These are all things he stated way after the fact.
So, I went over, and engine barely turns. The starter hits and it moves maybe a centimeter if lucky. I am thinking bent rod? Blown head gasket. WHat do you think?
I am trying to assist in his dilema, as he likes the 97 Z28 6-speed he has. If engine is bad, which is more than likely, where would you all recommend a 350/383 warranty motor.

Engine is burnt. Probably seized the pistons/rings warped the heads, and blew the head gaskets. Time to R&R it. Block would need every service offered by a machine shop. Throw it away and start fresh, heads too.

A few years back mine overheated out on the highway. I pulled over asap, parked it, and had it towed, stuck thermostat. Fixed it etc, however the overheating along with some air in the coolant system caused the Dex Cool in the engine to turn to a sludgy paste, that looks ALOT like rust. Replaced the waterpump after it died in part due to this, and several radiator flushes later, you can still see some of that crap floating around now and then. I doubt it will ever all be gone until if/when i do a rebuild. lol.

That does look like coolant got under the valve covers though.

Really? Seriously, it is strange how it just shows up in the upper area. No oil in water, and the water isnt milky.

Well, I need a reputable engine builder on the mainland, lower 48 states that is.
Suggestions?
Looking for reliability, 350-375 hp (flywheel). Nothing fancy for him.
I understand everything is LSx this, LSx that, but the LT1 he is sticking with as he just wants his Z28 6 speed to simple, and back to what it was.
He has definitely learned a lesson, I hope.

The fact that you can't turn the engine over is a huge cause for concern. No matter what it looks like under the valve covers, you are going to have to tear into the bottom end to truly asses the damage.

Get a low mile stock LT1 or rebuilt LT1 and stick in a cam...350-375 flywheel is easy, a cam and bolt-on's is all you need. My suggestions...CAI, LT headers, exhaust, CC503 cam, 1.6 Pro Mags...you're done. 4.10 gears would be nice also.

Here in Hawaii, its difficult to find low mileage engines such as an LT1.
I am recommending he get a 350/383 engine with a warranty, if such animal exists.

I got my car real hot already, but once it hit red I shut it down. That is when I replaced the opti and forgot to put the little socket-like thing on that drives the pump. No damage, no weird noises, no rusty valvetrain, etc.

If it were me, I'd go right to the top. Reher and Morrision, of Pro Stock fame, in Arlington, TX. I was given a personal tour of their facility and it's way over the top. Talk about a Top Shelf operation!!!

You'd have to look at one of the NASCAR shops to find anything comparable, shops like Hendricks or Childress, etc.

I was born and raised on the Big Island, I understand, lol.

Call up Ai and see if they can freight you a nice forged 383 stroker.
