Cam q's I know nothing of cams and I wasnt planning a search since this idea is half baked anyways.. While searching for exhaust clips I came across one that was titled "CC306" which oddly enough is Comp Cams 306. Motherfucker had a bad ass lick to it thru that dynomax bullet. What about this cam? how streetable for a daily driver? looking at a 3700 stall this week and either 3.73's or 4.10's thru the 4l60e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW7RZDdXmmk |
Some people do run this cam,but in my opinion it is to large a cam for a car with no head work and a stock bottom end. The cam does sound good, but you will lose a lot of useable power unless you are spinning your motor to like 6700-7200 RPM. the cc503 and GM846 cams are known as being the biggest cam you want to run on stock heads. that doesnt mean go out and get one. you need to identify what the car will be used for dd,street,, drag, etc. There is a very good sticky that you should read to help make up your mind. https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ion-guide.html |
Your best bet is do decide what you want out of the car and talk to Lloyd Elliot and get a custom ground camshaft. |
or contact Advanced Induction, just get a custom cam but if funds dont allow the custom cam then yes a cc306 or even a cc503 would be ur best bet... |
For stock heads...CC503, LE 223/230, or AI 226/234 cam would be my vote. Read this to learn the basics about cams: https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ion-guide.html |
Just read it. All I needed to do was ope my eyes, it was right there in the stickies. Looks like I'll be going for the CC503. |

Well, reason being, I like aggressive tone, and car seems to have good low end, and I'm getting a stall this week, so FTW for me. Now, Inform me about 1.6rr |

While I'm at it, replace opti and waterpump? meh, throw some pullies on too? If you have the cash for a new opti, during the cam swap would be the best time. You can get a OEM opti from "thepartsladi" on Ebay. Don't forget to thread lock the rotor screws before you install it. No need to waste your time with pulleys. You can however get an electric water pump. I am assuming that you either have or will be installing the proper supporting mods for the cam (CAI, LT headers, exhaust) and I would recommend getting a 3000+ stall and 3.73 gears. |

Forgot to mention that you need a new timing cover gasket kit. Felpro is what I use. If you have the cash for a new opti, during the cam swap would be the best time. I'm going 3500-3700 stall from TCI I think. I'm waiting on calls for pricing. I/H/E is before cam. I wouldnt mind the 4.10's either. be a nasty bastard outta the hole with d/rs that i have. One more thing. A new timing set is also recommended (order these from GMPartsDirect): crank sprocket part# 10128346 $28 cam sprocket part# 10206039 '95-'97 part# 10128349 '93-'94 $35 chain pat# 10128485 $31 |
I was just about to say... might as well do a timing set while I'm in there. I have a while to save. this paycheck will be buying the gears and having a pinch of xhaust work done just to satisfy me. I hate flowmaster. fuck. most of us are 1/8 mile guys where I'm from. coincidently, its double the distance to get to a 1/4 mile track than to get to the 1/8! |
if you dont do a lot of highway driving, and mostly race 1/8th mile, def go with 4.10s |
hopin to bust a low 8 with gears and stall before cam. |
low 8s shouldnt be too hard, depending onhow light your car is. I ran an 8.05 before the cam with TCI 3500, 4.10s, and bolt-ons. probably just under 3500 pounds with me in the car. |

Don't buy a TCI, the BEST you will hear from anyone knowledgable is they are hit and miss. I really like Edge they are just a little more than TCI but a lot better. I would not hesitate to run a Vigilante or Yank either, they have billet covers which adds a couple hundred dollars to the pricetag which is what keeps this poor buy away. |
