Default LT1 93-95 vs 96-97 exhaust is different?

Ok I guess its a rookie mistake but I purchased a hooker cat back exhaust from a guy off craigslist, great deal has a cutout already welded in and it included the electronic valve. I found that it was from a 94 trans am and my 97 has a different cat system. I am planning on one day getting LTs but probably 6 months. I was wondering whats the best place was to adapt the exhaust to be able to use it before I get the headers. It seems too short, and the factory exhaust is 2 tubes one with what looks like a cat.

if it is too short go to an exhaust shop and have them cut the pipe right in front of the cut out and bend you a new pipe that will work with your y pipe. Shouldn't cost more than an hours labor

Yes, they are different. '93-'95 had one long cat, '96-'97 have dual cats. Basically the y-pipes that are different. You can take that catback into any competent exhaust shop to get it welded in place on your car. Shouldn't cost much either.
