Does this look like enough room to replace the oil pan gasket?

Default Does this look like enough room to replace the oil pan gasket?

Looking to replace my oil pan gasket. I have the driver's side header removed, the trans removed, and the driver's side motor mount is out with a piece of wood between the mount and the k member.

Wouldn't it have been easier to hold up the engine and just dropping the k member?

What I do is chain the motor to my STB. Then I pull the motor mount pins and unbolt the 6 k-member bolts. That allows the k-member to drop significantly and then removing the oil pan is easy. Don't forget to remove the oil level sensor before you try to drop the pan.

Based on your experience, do you think I need more clearance? It seems like quite a bit of room to drop the pan low enough to clean out the old gasket material and replace it with a 1piece felpro pan gasket.

What is that, like a 4" gap? I think you should be ok. On my buddy's car we didn't drop it low enough to remove the pan, but we were able to fish the new gasket in there and pull it up on the endges and get it into place.

I think its more like a 2inch gap. I think it will be ok though given that I have no trans or driver's header to worry about.
