I need clutch and flywheel sugggestions! So I'm swapping a M6 into the car and of course I want to go ahead and us a new clutch. I've narrowed down my options to the Spec stage 2 Ram Powergrip Ram hdx Also, should I resurface the factory flywheel that I have or should I just buy the billet steel, or aluminium one? I'm not sure what the exact difference is in the steel and aluminuim one besides weight. I autox and drag the car but its usually a dd and hasn't even seen the track in 2 years. What do you guys suggest. If anything better than what I've got please let me know. All mods are in sig. Thanks guys. |

I have no experience with the Spec but I had the Ram Powergrip Hd in mine and didn't like it at all. If I tried to slip it a little bit it wouldn't hold at all, it would just go up in smoke. The Mcleod Street twin isn't that expensive when you consider it comes with a flywheel and adjustable master cylinder. It was the only clutch my builder recommended to use on an LT1 that was going to see some abuse. |
Mcleod street twin is a good deal but my budget bearly stretches 6-700$ 1000+ is way out of the question. I just need something that will easily hold up to my power level that I can use to finish up the swap. |
Had the SPEC 2+...good clutch but did not last long. Chatter in stop/go traffic. Bought the RAM and sent it back. Went with ZOOM HP and have had great results on street & track...with a much heavier car and a 383 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ZZZ-HP70043-1/ get the FW resurface or buy a billet one. |

Check out competition clutchs website i ran a ram hd or whatever it is and now run the cc clutch it has held up better with nitrous and slicks than the ram did. |

I hate to say bad things cause I can't say for sure if it was broken in right, but other people have had similar problems with Spec clutches. I put a Ram Powergrip in my car and it feels good so far, but I'm having some problems. I'm going to leave it at that as I'm not sure if it's the clutch or hydraulics at this point. Ram has been really helpful on working with me about this too. |
The LT4 setup might be a good option for the power you have in it at the moment. I'm tellin ya man I know why your options are limited..you have the wrong Engine in that car..:P |

I hear a lot more about how the specs crapped out after a couple thousand miles than I have things that were good. I'll put 15k miles on my car this year and it hasn't seen the race track in 2 years. I need something more reliable. About the only WOT it will see is the occassional on ramp to the freeway. What about buying a pressure plate, resurfacing the flywheel and using a mcleod disc? |

So, other than a replacement lt1 clutch kit won't hold together for 6k dumps, what's actually wrong with it? I only ask because I don't know. I'm doing an A4-M6 swap and I want to do it right, but I don't want a clutch that is so performance targeted that I can't put 70k miles on it. I have friends putting mid 3xx to the ground with the 100,xxx + stock clutchs with no problems at all!!! I'm just confused why people have so many problems with them. Someone please explain. Shed some light on me. |
Could possibly be improper installations or something out of adjustment maybe.. |

i have a spec stage 2. i like it alot. she grabs real hard. on break it it chattered horribly. but after 500-600 miles and a good break in the chatter was abit less noticeable. with my small cam and stock gears coming off a stop can be alittle tricky to get it 100% smooth. but ive been living with it everyday for the past few months without issues. however when i need a new clutch i might look else where first. ive heard great things about monster clutchs.. |
