Did the lid mod, but with a twist. (lots of pics) Since I have a ram air hood now, I was thinking of how to make it functional without spending $200+ on a LT1 ram air box, or sitting around waiting forever for a great deal to come along on one. I had got this idea from a guy with an ultra-z hood on his ls1 camaro, to make the hood functional he got a ls1 ws6 base, which the gap on the front is about an inch higher than the others. So I bought a complete intake, base+stock lid with silencer+ k&n filter, and complete ls1 front brakes shipped for $250, way too good to pass up. Man was it a pain in the *** getting the damn thing to fit under the hood. First had to cut up the silencer by cutting the 'boxes' off of both sides, then cutting out parts of the to block off the openings, pics will show this below. Then the real fun began on using the dremel and a steel bur type bit, just realized I didn't take pics of this, will get some tomorrow. I think I ended up taking a little over a half inch off the bottom all the way across in all, yes it was a little at a time, then check, nope still to tall, take off a little more, recheck, nope still to tall, yeah, there were times when I thought, F-it, it aint goin on there(been working on this for over a week). Damn, this thing is gettin long. I did need to splice and lengthen the wires for the mass air, and intake air temp sensors, and a 3.5'' to 4'' humped reducer (on it's way here). Anyways, here's the pics. If anyone has any questions, just ask.

I have a stock LS1 bellow. I was gonna use it but my MAF sensor slid directly into my SLP lid TIGHT. I'm gonna put a clamp on the plastic and call it good.
Using a 3x3 fernco from MAF > Throttle Body. Works slick
Just gotta trim a little more from the hood and mine will be done.

I'm not sure, I bought it off of someone, he never said what kind it was, and the sticker on the underside was torn off. It's black gel coat if that means anything.

I borrowed a buddy's SLP lid the other day and stuck it on there, and have found out two things that I didn't know but don't surprise me, 1, IAT sensor is the same for both LT1 nad LS1 cars, and 2 the stock maf's are also interchangable. But anyways, finally had a chance to let the car stretch it's legs, and hooollllyyyy ****. Big difference between using a stock lid and an aftermarket one, car pulls HARD now from 5700-6300. Can't wait to get this bitch to the track and see what kinda gain it made. Also found another spot that needs trimmed on the bottom side of the hood

Has anyone ever had any issue driving in driving rain with these ram air lid conversions? Just curious if you get caught on the interstate or something in hard rain if it sucks a lot of water.

I haven't been in any rain yet, but ask the ls1 ram air guys that have thier baffles removed. I remember seeing one in the florida part where a guy asked how it was in the rain with baffles removed and a lot of guys haven't had any problems, maybe get the filter damp. If you're just cruising, then you're not sucking much air, and the rain would have to figure how to go up instead of down.
