Those that have done it, what are some estimated costs?
I got a good deal on the tranny, tranny crossmember, bellhousing, spec stage 3, pro 5.0, master, slave, and pedals for $1100. Then I needed a new disk, $70 IIRC, flywheel $65 from autozome+$100 core (or an ls1 flywheel from a member for shipping costs ), flywheel and pressure plate bolts $60 (Local dealership raped me), lower shift boot $35, M6 center console plate $50 and a few misc pieces here and there probably less than $50.

But now my throw out bearing is going out deffinately replace that if your going to be using a used pressure plate like I was. But I couldn't find one locally so I ran the old one, don't do that LOL

I swapped mine about 4 years ago and love it. I see the track maybe once a year and the rest is street time. I was able to run 7.8-7.9 in the 1/8 with a 3400 stalled auto and so far have only been able to run a 8.2 with the 6 speed. I am by no means a pro at shifting so I would imagine once I get my techniques down better I may get a little closer to the auto trans times.

If you do the swap I would suggest trying to find all the parts from one place, like someone parting out an M6 car. This will save time and money as you will not have to go searching for parts. The only things I had to buy other than the trans and components were a new clutch and center column insert(I wasn't able to find the 97 style uses anywhere).

I have a Performabuilt level 2 with maybe 3 miles on it along with an FTI 4000 converter and B&M super cooler. I might list it or I might run it, I was just feeling things out. I figure that if I do attempt the swap itll be about $1,000 difference from what I sell and what I need.

4L80 w/Lockup. My old school buddies kept saying go TH350, but when we would drive to A-town, they would be pegged at 4500rpm on the highway, me, 3000.

I didn't read through the entire thread, but I have done a T56 conversion on a few cars. It's not too difficult and can easily be pulled off in a weekend. Everyone that I have done the conversion for has been estatic to say the very least about their car after the conversion is done. The fun factor is times 10. You can say what you want about auto's and consistency (I'm not here to argue) but I love 6 speeds (I have two) and I would never drive an auto.

I agree with this guy ^^ My car started auto and I just hated everything about the auto. I got too good of a deal on the car to pass it up though. But if you are thinking about the swap, just do it and you will be happy.

+1000

nothing like a trans as bullet proof as a built TH400 with the overdrive of a 4L60e.

definately alot lighter than a TH350/400 with a GV OD too with less loss

pretty much like alot said, everytime I'm at the track and running away from my t56 buddies I love it but when I'm messing around on the highway or just blasting away on deserted road I wish I had a t56, oh well maybe it's time for a FMV
