Default Single Plane vs. Stock intake on 383

Ok, I'm still in the air about doing a single plane. I think if I ever do it though, I would get the intake modified and not the heads.

I am going to be running a 383 with TFS 195cc heads that flow 313 at .600, 2.08/1.60 valves, a 236/242 .612/.612 110+4 cam.

Right now I have a LE ported stock LT1 intake and just was wondering how much of a gain I would see from doing a single plane?

Eventually I am going to put nitrous back on it and I know that the single plane will have better distribution than the stock one.

what do you guys think?

The single plane is so much better...air distribution kicks the lt1 intake ***....and your plugs will last a lot long....

You NEED to get the cam specific for whichever you choose.

I would get a Vic jr with that small of a cam.

Have the intake modified, send it to Bret Bauer he knows whats up with a super vic.

My super vic is just touched up in the plenum and match ported to the heads, he said I have 20 hp to get with his modifications.

x2,

Dont just get the intake to have it, you should 'need' it or you are leaving power on the table.

im getting a super vic setup from bret, i had him spec my cam for the single plane. the valve events are alot different between the two setups. it runs strong on my lt4 manifold, but i cant wait for the single plane especially on nitrous.

When the Dart block comes out, would a single plane be the only intake of the two that should be considered for say a 427 LT1?

Just run a vaccum hose to it. Then you can mount the sensor where you want. Just drill and tap the intake for a vaccum nipple.

A few years ago, a local guys built a serious 396 with AFR 220 Competition heads and a big solid roller. He dyno'd it with the SP and a ported LT4. The LT4 made more power below 5200 rpm, they were dead even from 5200 to 6200, then the SP pulled away above 6200 rpm by a margin of 15 hp at peak. Not worth it IMO.

Yeah, I've been discussing it with some people and being that the car is mostly going to be a street car I think I am going to be better off just staying with the LT1 intake.

Good call, most people just look past the LT4 and want 'something different'.

I am getting ready to install a single plane on my new build. 383 w/ Trickflow TEA heads and a solid roller. I am going to use a elbow and 90mm TB. This should work great with my YSi and 20lbs of boost.

I will let you guys know results when the car is done.
