93 ramair with 98-02 set up

I have been working on this project for alittle while and i know another member was doing the same type of set up ( Bowtie4life) so he gets some credit also . I have a slp hood and everything i did this with is stock parts everything together ( not hood ) i did for around 40.00 instead of 200+ for the slp stock set up i have pics to see what i started and ended with. also a vid of it running if i can get it attached .

hood closed no problem

this is where i have to open it for air flow , iam going to see if i can make it so it really rams the air into the intake we will see :)

cool, I'm glad to see that I have contributed some and helped ya out. If you got yours to fit without needing to trim on the bottom of the base, I hate you. Open 'er man, it makes a difference, and also find a cheap used lid, makes a HUGE difference.

93 ram air with 98 set up

how did you get the base to fit the radiator support without trimming it?

Bowtie4life 09-20-2009 07:43 PM

I was looking at your setup again, I'm guessing it's a regular base, cuz I was looking at the side picture and then looked at mine, and saw that yours is shorter. I'd look into the SSRA, or fast toys ram air set up for the ls1 cars, the guys say that they work better than the ls1 ws6 ram air setup, but deffinately get an aftermarket lid, really wakes it up. Looks good though, and deffinately beats paying the couple hundred bucks for the lt1 ram air set up.

Iam not sure idf theres a difference but i bought a v6 intake not a v8 then put a v8 lid on top , there maybe a height difference there ? here is the vid of it running

hey, whatever works man. I think that the bases are the same, just the lids are different between the 6 and 8 cars, and the ws6 base is taller. Must have been nice to just bolt it on and be able to close the hood. But look into the free ram air mod, or the ssra and fast toys ram air systems, and get an aftermarket lid as soon as you can, i didn't think it would make that big of a difference, but holy crap does it make a difference. Makes the air filter a hell of a lot easier to get to now doesn't it?

lol at the duct tape on the stock elbow

Chevyguy358 09-21-2009 01:10 AM

very nice, I was actually postponing this same project due to cost...guess I won't have to. Did you just get your base from a local yard?

mine had that for about a week in 07 when i failed emissions. i took it to the shop and paid $107 in diagnostic fees to find out i had a hole in the stock elbow

they were going to buy a stock elbow for another $100 and i had them send it back and bought an aluminum one from summitt. had i known that i was going to get such a good deal on an oem ram air box and hood (bought seperately all my ram air pieces cost ~ $500 and that included the oem hood, airbox, grills, blockoff plate, maf wire extension etc i would have just left the duct tape on there for the 6 months before i got the ram air since 4 of those months the car spent in the garage for winter. Truthfully my tape wasn't that noticeable. they taped the bottom of the tube like that and only a small piece was visible on the passenger side.

the only thing i don't like about the LS1 box is that it doesn't really take air in from the top like the LT1 does. here's my engine bay btw.

looks good, but i think the factory LT ramair intake might work better w the lt ws6 hood, as i have both in the driveway

thats true , i was just trying something . The factory set up is hard to find for under 200.00

formula vincent 09-26-2009 03:37 PM

yeah i agree. i dont understand why gm stopped making such a highly sought after
setup for the lt1.

I wonder if they intended for it to be a hard to find item?

SLP even stopped making it. Their box wasn't as good though since it didn't have the gasket formed on the box.

They stopped making it b.c the LS1 lid setup is superior. It makes more power and pulls more cold air.

I'd love to see if someone can dyno a car with teh factory lt Ram air setup, and again with the LS intake/aftermarket lid setup( hood would have to be closed though to see the true comparison).

I always wondered if my formula is getting choked off by only going through the passages in the hood.

i know this is going to become an LT1 vs LS1 debate but how can the LS1 airbox pull in more cold air when the LT1 box seals to the hood and prevents hot engine air from coming into the airbox. IIRC the LS1 WS6 airbox gets air from both the nostrils and under the car and the air coming from under the car hits the hot radiator on its way up and the box isn't sealed off. i don't see how the LS1 box can be superior to the LT1 box.

FASTFATBOY 09-27-2009 06:32 AM

My car is in the 585 hp range. There is almost NO restriction with my Suncoast LT1 ws6 setup.

I did a datalog the other day with Datamaster. A key on engine off map reading was 103 kpa. Under WOT the map reading never went under 100 kpa, and got close to the 103 kpa a few times. This shows about as little restriction as you could have with a full intake setup.

FYI the LS1 WS6 base is different than all the others, it sits up higher. And YES this does make a difference.
