if you're getting LE2 heads I'd get a better matching cam IMO

It will keep pulling another 400-500 RPM over what it does with stock heads. You do not "have to" raise the shift RPM but the car will be faster if you do. Just shift at 6300 RPM or so and the bottom end will live a while.

if it is a 6 speed, you might shift at 6400-6500 RPM and still be OK, just do not go beyond that with a stock bottom end.

If it is auto trans and you have the computer set to shift at 6300 RPM (and completing the shift at 6500-6600 RPM) that is all I would wanna take the engine.

If it is a built 355, you can shift at 6500 RPM with no worries and a larger cam would be agood idea. If it is a stock bottom end, that is actually a good cam to make the bottom end live.

You would not ahve to raise the shift points and if shifting that high on a stock bottom end, just leave the shift points there and the car will still run ALOT better than it does with stock heads.

ok, that sounds good to me, my car is an auto but i was thinking of goin with a 230/236 duration cam with a 109 lobe seperation. would that be far to much for a stock bottom end?

Yes a LE1 cam will suffice with a LE2 heads and make damn good power. You will just have to tell ur tuner who already knows to up the shift +/- 600 rpm which will be around 6400 rpm and will be awesome for your build. But if your bottom end is built push it further than that.

Thats what I got. I made 384 through the 9" Truetrac and that was before my TD's, 58mm and better flowing CAI.

my goal for the car is to be in the high 11's with a stock bottom end and on street trim. so now im thinking i might just put some 1.7 rockers that ive got laying around on and up the lift to .570/.580 and see if that will open them heads up a little more. also the car weighs about 3600 pounds with me in it.

I would make sure you can even use 1.7s with that cam b4 throwing them on. With my cam I cant use 1.7s.

Probably too much duration, and not enough piston to valve clearance

i wouldnt think i would have a piston to valve clearance with the cc503 would i? ive seen cams with alot more duration and more lift than that. so should i stick with 1.6s or go ahead and go with 1.7s?

I never looked into the cc503 thats why I said to check b4 you spend any money.
I can not do it with my cam for the reason Strokin mentioned, cam was designed to work with 1.6s.
