Cutout vs. TD's So I don't know a whole lot about exhaust but I wanna learn. What are the pros and cons with an electric cut out? What one is better? I would assume TD's is best because thats massive flow. What kind of gain would you get out of each one? |

IMO Xpipe sounds the best but some people say H.. you are talking 2-3rwhp MAX between the two. a TD is expensive if taken out the back.. cheap if its dumped.. loud if its dumped and cant quiet it down.. cutout sounds like everybody else car but you can make it quiet if you want by running through a quiet exhaust.. cutout is much cheaper in all situations. |

he is rite..... the cutout also sounds good if u got a cam with :D At idle it sounds good. But anything other than that.... :barf: |
Just to add since I've ran a cutout and a dumped x-pipe... The cutout sounds like absolute shit compared to a TD's setup. I would imagine the X would scavenge much better than a Y setup making it beneficial. Also running dumped TD's is much lighter than a Y-Pipe/Catback setup. Ditching my 3" ORY and Magnaflow for my dumped 2.5" TD's shaved almost 30 lbs. off the car. |
Cutout sounded kickass at Idle and WOT...inbetween it was ass..expecially with the rasp of the Y-pipe. I'm going to be running 3" TD's with an X-pipe, dumped with 12" Flo Pro Twisties. :) |
i've run a magnaflow catback with cutout, 2 1/2" TD with dynomax bullets, and my current 4" single with a hooker maxflo muffler and cutout. i like my 4" the best, ground clearance with TD sucks, and my car is slammed so i had to ditch them. i think if you're making big power cutouts sound good, but they sound dumb on a stockish motor. |
TD's for overall best performance. Be careful if the car is lowered because you might have some scrapping issues. You can always fab up something and run both TD's and a Electric cut out. I am running the DMH electric cut out and love it. Stay away from QTP cut outs. Here is a sound clip of my open cut out w/ AI's 200cc heads/cam package http://videos.streetfire.net/video/A...0cc_694817.htm |

That thing sounds awesome, both w/ and w/o the cutout open. What are the HP gains with the cutout with the Y pipe setup? Would I notice the difference? |
WRT the complete exhaust system. TD's FTW. WRT the cutouts. When I had a single 3" cutout on the Borla catback, It gave me less than a 6RWHP gain on the dyno. This is due to the cutout being so far back that it becomes less effective. IMHO, cutouts should be around 18" behind the long tube collectors for best power gains. My cutouts are placed where I stated above (see sig for pics). When I open the cutouts, I can feel a gain in the higher RPMs, but the lower RPM power band does soften up a bit. Edit: Fixed |
^^I can figure out about half of that post..:confused:lol |
I was thinking the same thing |
^^ditto...wtf? lmao |
I need my LS1tech decoder ring |
my cutout sounds amazing through mac mids and a cam. i like having ground clearance or else i woulda gone with a true duel set up |

I will simply plead WTF on that one. Note to self, Do not smoke crack then post on this board. |
What does the WRT stand for? |
