Stock CNC'd head options Who have yall used OTHER than AI for having stock heads cut? I am looking to reseach all my options before I spend a wad of money on some heads. I'm not looking for OPINIONS, I am looking for proven timeslips and dyno sheets. We all know what AI can do and we all know everyone here has a freind of a relative who uses so and so... Lets hear it! |
LE is the other one that is well known......while not cnc it's still on the right track |
CNC only please |
Afr baby :) |
Are we even allowed to mention the once that are not sponsors? |
If they are non-sponsors, please PM me. I need some concrete data to help me with my decision. I don't want another run of the mill LT1 that makes dismal power for a ton of money. |
I know TEA (Total Engine Airflow) ports stock LT1 castings. I am unsure whether they are CNC or hand but would be worth a look. |
You can mention a non sponsor, just can't post a link or the po-po will delete it. |
Lloyd uses a CNC as well, just not for the entire process. Or at least thats what I've "heard" maybe he can step in and clarify that for us. AFR TEA Eric Bradby?? Not sure if hes cnc or not. West coast cylinder head Lingenfelter?? TFS Dart Brodix Theres lots of options. If you want to really go fast convert a set of 15 or 18 deg sbc heads. If you want to stick w ported stockers, for strictly CNC porting, AI would have to get my vote. |

do a search if you're looking for proven performance. i think 98% of the guys on this board have only bolt ons. |

Times in sig are with AI's 200cc heads. They work great to me. |
Forget flow numbers, I know a guys with CNC's GM castings done by a company in FL and his 396 on a 100 shot is slower than my NA stock shortblock. His flow numbers are pretty close to my heads. Another friend has TPIS CNC's AFRs, had them on a mstock shortblock and his Camaro ran the same as my cam only Caprice did with a smaller cam. Then he did a stroker the winter I did heads and cam and my car has been faster since. CNC is perfect for repeating something, problem is if you give it bad input it repeats that bad input perfectly. Those of us who run CNC equipment refer to that as "shit in shit out". I do not run a 5 axis head machine I run 3 axis wood equipment so I have some clue how it all works. |
I run Lingenfelter CNC LT1s with hand blending by E.B. Porting (Eric Bradby) with 2.00/1.56 Manley Severe Duty valves which are standard with the Lingenfelter heads...I run them with a small 226/234 cam from Erson spec'd by Joe Overton...Car runs right with and in most cases is quicker/faster than others who run a lot more cam...Lingenfelter was running specials on the LT1 stuff for a while and their in shop hand blending after the CNC work is top notch...The original owner of the car didnt opt fot that option back in 1995 when the heads were originally done... --Alan |

Small head I think 187cc after the porting. With the 383 it got better stall and exhaust and still wont touch my stock shortblock times. Tried a handful of different TPIS cams. The tuning from someone assiciated with TPIS was crap so I helped him load some madtuner programming. Made every effort to help him make the car work. I do think that the stock shortblock setup would have benfited from better tuning, stall, exhaust, but all that was addressed with the 383 and it is still slower. |
