Doesn't get any better than this...... Well the car was running great.....actually really good. Didn't have any leaks whatsoever, everything was sealed up nice and tight. Well last night me, the wife, and a buddy took the car up to Topeka to drop off some parts and eat. On the way there I decided to give her a little gas and see what she would do. Ran great but after giving it some gas I could smell a burning oil. At first I thought it was the tranny leaking because it leaks a little out of the rear output shaft seal. Looked and there was fluid all around that area. Figured it would be ok. Drove it home and never smelt anything. Got off the interstate and gave her hell through 4th gear. Even though I was shifting at 4500 damn she felt strong. Smelt the burning smell again. Took her down to the shop and parked her. This morning I went to get it and when I pulled it out of the garage there is oil all over the floor. Motor oil. The whole underside of the car is covered in it. But when I checked the oil it is still in the safe zone so I don't think I lost that much. I wiped down a few places and CANNOT tell where the oil is coming from. None of the major seals, valve cover, front cover, oil pan, are leaking from what I can tell. Any ideas where this stuff might be coming from? My conclusion is that it only leaks when I am at WOT. I'm lost..... |

dip stick Tonight I am going to go and wipe everything down and check a few things. |
i was thinking dipstick right before i posted and completely forgot. a.d.d. sux. i dont think the back of the intake could leak THAT much unless you just forgot to put silicone there |
I did the same thing b4, Dip stick didnt seat right and at high RPMs it would spit all over the headers, k-member etc. |
The dip stick could be seated but could be cracked further up, i've seen that one.. But if it's only doing it under throttle so it's doing when it's building crank case pressure, what about one of the seals being damaged ad leaking by? |
none of the seals have any visible oil coming from them, mostly just looks like splatter all over the place. I am going to seal up the dipstick and wipe everything down with brake clean and try driving it again. |
Oil filter on tight? oil pan gasket? valve cover gasket or fill tube? |
I was thinking more along the lines of a timing cover b/c it's hard to see to it. |
IF its all the front its leaking from the front somewhere! You need to clean it all and take it for a drive and see what happens or even put in some dye and hopefully it leaks at idle! |
So what was it?? |
Pretty sure it is the dipstick. I've worked all week and planned on getting the car finished tonight but got 103 degree fever this morning and found out I have a staff infection. GRREREEEAAAAATTTTT |
Man forget about the car for now...Get the Staph Infection fixed ASAP |

Well an UPDATE: Check dipstick and it was in fact seated in all the way, I don't know what I was thinking. Started feeling around on the motor and found a very wet spot (NAUGHTY!!!) right behind the driver side head. Ended up being the driver side valve cover. Gonna seal it up tonight and see if that fixes the problem. |
