Engine Fan Question
Engine Fan Question I have a 95 Z28, it does not over heat. Lately my engine light has been coming on and the fans will stay on while the light is on but when it goes out the fans cut off. Sometimes it only stays on for a minute, but other times it stays on until i cut the car off and i can start the car right back up and the light and fans are off. I was thinking it may be a relay or something, anyone got an idea.
yeh, my low colant light has been on for a while so i have to check it myself. No matter how full it is it never goes out. So that sensor can make the fans come on even though the engine is not running hot.
your engine probably IS running hot. The fans come on when the temp gets above 210 on a stock ECU....Do you randomly lose coolant every now and then, but cant figure out where the leak is at?
Not to steal the thread but i have the same problem. It started acting up right after i removed my EGR system. Have you made any changes to your car lately that might have triggered the fans to turn on?
yes, i do loose a little coolant every now and then. My temp gauge works i mean it goes up and down like it always has. I can site at a red light and the engine if it gets warm the fans will come on and the temp will go down.

That sounds like either your coolant level sensor, or your thermostat. If your thermostat isntopening properly, like maybe its sticking or something, it may causue your temp to flu up, and it will back up the coolant so you will lose some in the process, then when it finally opens you cool back off. The level sensor is an easy cheap fix, and the thermostat is a semit easy cheap fix so I would START with those. or you may even just need to bleed the lines...

Your fans are on because the check engine light is on. Get it checked for codes and fix what's making the light come on and don't worry about the thermostat or coolant temp sensor.

Scan for trouble codes. Fans come on with the check engine light as already said. Don't worry about the low coolant sensor causing anything. It has nothing to do with the computer, so it cannot cause the fans to come on.

yeh it came on today but went off after a minute, next time it comes on and stays on im going to take it to advanced and have them scan it, just can't turn the car off or the light will go away. I didn't know the fans came on anytime the light did.

Werd, but a lot of the places that scan for free won't scan it if the light is not actually on. IMHO, if you are going to work on your car, you need to invest in a scanner or diagnostic software you can use with your personal computer.
